South Fayette topples Bethel Park

The Black Hawks scored four runs in the top of the seventh to score a 7-3 win at South Fayette while the Lions racked up three runs in the top of the 11th inning in topping Bethel Park, 4-1, in the follow-up contest at Purkey Field.

South Fayette knocked off Bethel Park, 4-1, in Section 2 baseball action on April 10 at Purkey Field.

The Lions scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning and handed the Black Hawks their first loss in the division.

Ethan Rose tagged an RBI single while Gino Satira and Tyler Schepis drove in runs on sacrifice fly balls in the decisive frame.

Satira earned the win on the mound. After Rose tossed the first nine frames, scattering four hits and striking out five, Satira pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and walking one.

In the win, Schepis had the lone extra base hit, a double, for the Lions (1-1, 2-1). Brayden Harris and Adam Caye each collected two safeties.

In addition to Satira and Rose, Bo Stover had the only other hit for South Fayette, which left 14 runners on base. Stover also walked four times.

Ryan Walsh and Dylan Schumacher pitched four innings each for the Black Hawks, accounting for seven strikeouts. Mike Bruckner pitched 2 2/3 innings and Nick Rillo recorded the final out for the BP pitching staff, which walked 13 batters.

Offensively, Ryan Petras tagged two hits while Kaden Flambard doubled.

On April 9, Bethel Park scored four unearned runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Lions, 7-3, on their home turf.

Jack Bruckner ignited the uprising. He walked to lead off the frame and scored on an error. After Ryan Tierney singled, Mike Bruckner reached base on an error. Ethan Stanhoff followed with a base hit and Joe Levis tagged a two-run single.

Offensively, Tierney had two hits while Petras, Stanhoff, Noah LeJeune and Jack Brucker all drilled doubles.

Mike Bruckner was credited with the win. Santino Diulus, Rillo and Schumacher also pitched in the contest for the Black Hawks (3-1, 4-3-1).

The Lions scored an unearned run in the third. Singles by Schepis, Satira and Rose produced a tally in the fifth. SF scored the equalizer in the bottom of the sixth on three walks, a sacrifice and a base hit by Schepis.

While the Lions play Connellsville in an away-and-home series on April 15 and 16, the Black Hawks host rival Peters Township at 4 p.m. April 15 at Purkey Field before traveling to Peterswood Park for a 7 p.m. April 16 fray with the Indians.
