In the swim: area pools open for season
The summer solstice will occur June 20, but many area residents aren’t waiting to beat the heat. They’re diving into their local watering holes to cool off from unseasonably warm weather.
Matt and Michele Owens kicked off the Sun-and-Fun season early by taking their two young sons, Blake and Hayes, to Dormont Pool for opening day on May 25.
“It was refreshing because it was really hot,” said Michele Owens of the unheated facility. “It felt nice because it was so warm.”
“Nice pool,” added Matt Owens. “It’s great for the family.”
The Owens family purchased a season pass because it allows them admission 15 minutes early on weekends. “You can get a nice spot,” Matt said.
The daily rate of $8 per person is affordable though for a family of four, he added.
In addition to a slide, there are crafts for the children and a concession stand.
The Dormont Pool is open weekdays from noon to 7:30 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on weekends and will remain open through Sept. 2. The pool is closed the first Monday of each month.

In addition to Dormont Pool, there are plenty of places to take a dip this summer.
