CONCERT

The Bethel Park Community Foundation’s annual Dean Streator Holiday Concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Bethel Park Community Center. The stage will be shared by Community Band South under the director of Max Gonano and Chad Hill; Bethel Park High School’s Top 21 Choral Ensemble, Todd Kuczawa, Director; and the Handbell Ringers of Southminster Presbyterian Church, conducted by Samantha DeFurio and Mark Etzel. FLEA MARKET

The Bower Hill Community Church will hold a fall flea market from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23. A half-price sale runs from 2 to 3 p.m. In addition to the main room, there will be a boutique, toy room, jewelry area, and book room. Homemade soup and baked goods along with other items will be available at the snack bar.

FOOD DRIVE

The Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company is collecting food and supplies for the South Hills Interfaith Movement – SHIM. A donation bin is located in the lobby of the police station from now until Nov. 27. On Nov. 24, from 8 a.m. to noon, there will be a drive-thru donation drop-off available at the Brightwood Fire Station.

AUP MEET

The Association of University People (AUP) invites singles 50 and over who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include monthly dinners, social gatherings, concerts, meeting up at local wineries, and day trips. Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining. CRAFT SHOP

The “I Made It! Market” will pop up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 23 at The Galleria of Mt Lebanon. This artisan holiday shopping event features over 80 unique artists. New and recognizable artists will be featured at this nomadic craft marketplace. The juried mix of artists will be offering exclusively handmade products, including 2-D art, clothing and toys for infants and children, bath and body products, ceramics, fiber art, glass art, housewares, jewelry, leather goods, pop culture and fandom gifts, pet treats and gifts, and wooden wares. Ready to eat and packaged food and beverages will also be available. Parking and admission is free.

PT REC

The Peters Township recreation department is offering the following:

Turkey Trot will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19. Ages 3 to 5 will create a Thanksgiving-themed craft, learn about the holiday and engage in games and other activities. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. Fee is $5 ($8 nonmembers). Sign-up deadline is Nov. 15

Christmas Tree string art from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 26. Ages 13 to 17 can create a piece of art for holiday decor or gift giving. Fee is $10 ($15 nonmembers). Registration deadline is Nov. 21.

Participants learn about Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and X. Bring a cellphone, tablet or computer.

SH CHABAD

A pop-up Jewish NY Deli will visit the Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road location, from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 24. Pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, potato knishes, matzo ball soup and Dr. Brown soda will be available. Pre-orders are required by Nov. 21 at www.chabadsh.com/deli.

The Chabad of the South Hills location at 1700 Bower Hill Road will conduct the six-session “Nurturing Relationships” seminar starting Nov. 13 from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Rabbi Mendy Rosenblum will dispense Jewish wisdom for building deeper, richer connections in relationships.

A senior lunch will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road. In addition to lunch, there will be a presentation on diabetes, meal planning and healthy eating. Suggested donation is $5. Call 412-278-2658 to preregister.

The Grand Chanukah Seniors Lunch will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Chabad of the South Hills McFarland Road location. In addition to a festive holiday program there will be a kosher lunch, hot latkes as well as raffle prizes. The event is wheelchair accessible. Suggested donation is $5.

CRAFT SHOWS

The Labouré Ladies Guild ‘s annual “Joy of Christmas” Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at St. Louise de Marillac School and LeGras Parish Center, 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair. In addition to 115 artists and craftsmen, there will be a bake sale, crafts raffle and 50/50. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $2 and includes a ticket for the crafts raffle. No strollers are permitted.

NURSE CLUB

Our Lady of Hope Parish will hold a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 in Frawley Hall of St. Valentine’s Catholic Church, located at 2700 Ohio St. in Bethel Park. A Life Line Screening event will be held Nov. 27 at the Carnegie Borough building on 1 Veterans Way. Participants must be aged 40 or over. Tests will screen for carotid artery disease, atrial fibrillation, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease and hypertension. Fee is $159. BP LIBRARY

The Bethel Park library offers the following this month:

A gingerbread workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 30 in the library’s program room. Ages 2 to 18 create and ice gingerbread houses to add to their holiday decor. The library provides iced tea cartons and graham crackers while participants bring candy and a can of icing to share.

BP HOLIDAYS

Bethel Park residents should mark their calendars for the following holiday events:

Dec. 4 – Annual tree lighting with a visit from Santa Claus from 6 to 8 p.m. at the community center.

Dec. 13 – Senior citizens luncheon at 1 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Residents ages 60 and older can attend this program that features a traditional holiday meal, entertainment by the Top 21 singers, orchestra and symphonic band. Sign-up forms are available at the community center. Reservations are due by Dec. 5.

SH CHORALE

The South Hills Chorale will perform its holiday program at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park. Tickets are $25. Visit southhillschorale.org or call 412-613-8717 to purchase. Tickets will be available at the door.

Eighty-five members belong to the nonprofit community group. They perform concerts in May and December. New members are welcome to join.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Keynotes is accepting applications for the 2025 Music Scholarship Competition, to be held May 10, 2025, at The Fine Arts Theater of Mt. Lebanon High School. Cash awards totaling more than $16,000 will be awarded. Instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age by June 1, 2025, and vocalists must be under the age of 30. The student must be a full-time music major at a college, university or music school or a graduating high school senior accepted for admission as a full-time music major. Contestants must be current legal residents of Pennsylvania for one year, or if out-of-state, attending a school in Pennsylvania, can provide proof of Pennsylvania address, i.e. campus address, university mailings, apartment or utility bills.
