Swimming pools, splash pads opening Memorial Day weekend
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the summer, and in the South Hills that means one thing: the beginning of outdoor swimming activities. A number of community swimming pools and splash pad parks will open during the long holiday weekend.
Here is a roundup of the opening dates for the facilities as well as regular hours and amenities.
Bethel Park
In its third season, the Park Avenue Splash Park continues to be Bethel Park’s newest attraction. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting, beginning May 23. Seasonal pass holders can enter early, beginning at 10 a.m.
All guests must have a membership card or pass to enter the Splash Park.
Seasonal membership for residents only is $50 per household. A 10-day punch pass for residents is also available for $27 per pass.
Seasonal passes can be purchased at the Bethel Park Community Center. Cash or card payment is accepted.
Single-day passes are available for purchase by credit/debit only at the Splash Park. Daily fee is $3 per person ($5 nonresidents).
Dormont
The historic Dormont Pool opens May 23 and continues through Sept. 1.
Regular hours of operation will be noon to 7:30 p.m. weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. weekends from June 6 through Aug. 16. The slide is open from 1 to 6 p.m. daily, excluding school weekdays.
School season hours of operation from May 26 through June 5 and Aug. 17 to 31 will be noon to 8 p.m. weekends and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. weekdays.
Memorial Day hours are noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free to Keystone Oaks School District residents with proof of residency.
Holiday hours for the Fourth of July are noon to 5 p.m. and for Labor Day, Sept. 7 from noon to 3 p.m. with the Doggie Dip Swim to follow.
Daily admission is $8. Children under age 3 are admitted for free.
Pool passes are available for purchase. Resident fees are $85 for ages 3 to 17; $105 for ages 18 to 64, $185 for families and $70 for seniors.
Season pass benefits include early entry at 11:45 a.m. on weekends and a dedicated entry line at the gate.
There are no rain checks or refunds. The pool may close due to inclement weather or low attendance.

Mt. Lebanon
The Mt. Lebanon outdoor swim center will not open over the Memorial Day weekend because a critical and essential component for the pump system could not be delivered on time. The municipality is working hard to complete the replacement for the pool filtration system, but does not have an exact opening date.
In the meantime, Dormont pool will honor swim center passes and admit residents at Dormont’s regular rates.
Once the pool does open, regular pool hours will be 11 a.m. to noon for adults and lap swimming as well as noon to 7 p.m. general admission.
The center offers lap swimming and recreational swimming for all ages as well as includes a bathhouse, family changing rooms, pool heater, zero depth leisure pool, double slide tower, spray features, 50-meter lap lanes, poolside rock climbing wall and a snack bar.
Daily admission is $12 for adults, ages 19 and older; and $11 for seniors ages 62 and older as well as children, ages 3 to 18.
Season passes and memberships are available for purchase in person at the recreation center and require a photo ID.

Peters Township
In its second season, the Rolling Hills Aqua Park will be open Memorial Day through Labor Day and is located at 110 Warriors Way in McMurray.
Hours of operations are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays.
Daily passes are available for $3.50 ($7 nonresidents) per person. A season pass costs $50 ($100 nonresidents), and can include up to four people. An extra fee of $5 ($10 nonresidents) applies for additional admissions.
The facility is available for rent. Fee is $225 for the party room; $175 for the shelter. Nonresidents pay $50 and $350 respectively. Only residents can rent the full facility from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 1 to July 31. Fee is $1,000.

Scott Park
The Scott Township pool opens May 23 at 1 Park Drive.
Hours are Friday through Monday and holidays, except the Fourth of July, are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday hours are noon to 8 p.m.
Adult lap swimming and senior citizen hours are noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Friday and 11 a.m. to noon all other days. Sensory-friendly swim hours are 11 a.m. to noon weekends.
The facility is available for rent for private and semi-private pool parties.
Family night sessions begin June 6 and are offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. Balls and clear rafts are permitted. Children must be accompanied by a parent.
Swimming lessons will be offered. Fees are $60 for residents and $80 for nonresidents.

South Fayette
The splash pad at Fairview Park is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Features are designed for children up to age 12 but all youth and adults can use the amenities. The facility also includes a concession stand, pavilion, restrooms, water fountain and solar-powered picnic tables that have wireless charging.
Attendants monitor the facility and the area is under video surveillance.
