The Bethel Branch of the Montour Trail will hold the Ninth Annual J. R. Taylor Memorial 5K Race/Walk 8:30 a.m. June 7. The race/walk begins on the trail near the Washington Elementary School on Clifton Road, behind Al’s Café.

VFW Memorial Park Post 764, McMurray, will hold an Induction Ceremony at 1 p.m. June 8 at the post on Valley Brook Road to honor Neil H. Brown of Upper St. Clair. 1st Lt. Brown will be inducted onto the Wall of Valor for his gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam and his award of the Silver Star. 1st Lt. Brown distinguished himself while serving as a platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division during airmobile assault operations in the A Shau Valley during August 1969.

The Amateur Astronomer’s Association of Pittsburgh, in cooperation with the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation, will present free Public Star Parties beginning at dusk June 6 and 7 at the Mingo Creek Observatory, located near Shelter 10 in Mingo Creek County Park. GLSEN Pittsburgh and the GLCC will hold the annual LGBT Youth Pride Prom 6-10 p.m. June 7 at the Andy Warhol Museum for ages 13-20. The Youth Pride Prom is presented each year as an alternative event for LGBT and all youth, providing an inclusive school prom experience. The prom is a safe space free of discrimination and encourages all youth to attend, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
