The Jazz Conspiracy, a 16-piece ensemble dedicated to capturing the sound and spirit of Big Band music, will perform for the launch of Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills’ arts series Sunnyhill Live!

The show is 8 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Mt. Lebanon church’s recently completed sanctuary, which was designed as a multifunction space.

The ensemble has an extensive library of quality music representing a broad time span, from the 1930s to the present, and variety of musical styles, including ballroom, Latin, swing and the Great American Songbook.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students, and can be purchased through www.brownpapertickets.com.

Also on the Sunnyhill Live! schedule:

  • An Evening with Chaplin, 8 p.m. Jan. 19. Elegant music meets slapstick as Tom Roberts plays his original piano compositions for some of Charlie Chaplin’s great films. He will be joined by clarinetist Mary Beth Malek.
  • ”Love Letters,” 8 p.m. March 2 and 3, and 2 p.m. March 4. The full-length play by A. R. Gurney chronicles the lifelong correspondence of two friends who are spiritually as close as only true lovers can be. “Love Letters” brings Cotter Smith, currently appearing in the Netflix production of “Mindhunter,” and his wife, director-actor Heidi Smith, to the stage.

Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills recently moved back into its home on the corner of Washington Road and Sunnyhill following completion of a $2.9 million renovation project. One of the criteria for the design of Sunnyhill’s new addition was that the sanctuary could become a center for community events in addition to Sunday services.

To achieve the congregation’s goal, architects created an airy yet intimate multifunction space with prime acoustics and moveable seating for 220. The new building’s neutral wall space in the sanctuary and entrance hallway are designed and equipped to accommodate large- and small-scale hanging art exhibits.
