Chevron and the Steelers have selected South Fayette Elementary School STEAM teacher Melissa Unger as winner of the 2017 “Leaders in the Classroom” program, which recognizes area teachers who demonstrate “exemplary leadership and instructional skills.”

Unger, who was nominated by Superintendent Bille Rondinelli for implementing STEAM curriculum for grades K-2, received a certificate and $1,000 grant for additional school supplies. She was recognized on the field during the Steelers vs. Patriots game Dec. 17 at Heinz Field and had the opportunity to participate in a VIP sideline experience.

Representatives from Chevron presented Unger with an oversized ceremonial check during an assembly at the elementary school. Pictured are, from left, are Rondinelli, Unger and Chevron representative Lee Ann Wainwright.
