Kirk L. Thompson, a Bethel Park resident and senior DOT compliance engineer for CONSOL Energy, was named engineer of the year by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers.

The award recognizes professional achievements, civic, political, engineering and educational contributions. Thompson’s career has included varied experience in facility design, project management, construction and regulatory compliance in the natural gas pipeline, public works and industrial sectors.

He was first elected to the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers Pittsburgh Chapter Board of Directors in 2007, and has continued to serve on the board since then. Thompson was also the chapter’s president from 2012 to 2013, was the executive secretary for several years and was recently elected as a state director.

He resides in Bethel Park and is a member of the Bethel Park Planning and Zoning Commission. Thompson earned his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
