Peters Township Public Library will sponsor a community blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 2. Donors are reminded to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of non-caffeinated beverages in the days leading up to the donation. To meet the needs of patients in area hospitals, Central Blood Bank must collect 500 units of blood and blood products each day. With every blood donation, the lives of as many as three patients in area hospitals are saved. Donors may donate anywhere between three and 24 times each year, depending on the type of donation and whether you are eligible to donate. To schedule your life saving appointment, call 1-866-366-6771 or log onto centralbloodbank.org and click Donate Blood. Bring your I.D. and a list of medications you are taking.

The Borough of Dormont Municipal Offices continues its three-month trail basis of new business hours. The trial began Nov. 20. Members of staff will be available until 8 p.m. on Mondays (or Tuesday after a Monday holiday). Most staff will be gone on Friday afternoons, but a clerk will still be available to help. The borough is trying out these new hours with the hope of providing its working population a better opportunity to visit with staff and ask questions about building and zoning permits or other issues, without the need to take time off from work.

South Fayette Township is holding a Buy a Brick program to help build a playground in the township. The Buy-A-Brick deadline has been extended into 2018.
