Preschool program

Mt. Lebanon High School will once again offer a preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds. To be eligible children must be at least age 3 1/2 by March 1, and 4-year-old children must be no older than 4 years 10 months by March 1. The program is operated by high school students enrolled in the Advanced Child Development Course under the supervision of the child development teacher. Children will attend from 9:10 to 10:40 a.m. Monday-Thursday, March 13-May 25. Cost is $65. Enrollment is limited to 10 children. Deadline for application is Feb. 24. ML Genealogy Society

The Mt. Lebanon Genealogy Society will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Adults-only fundraiser

The Independence Middle School PTSO will host a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” adults-only fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Level 20 Sports Bar/Restaurant, Bethel Park. The event will feature a disc jockey, basket raffle and 50/50 raffle. Wear your best 80’s outfit and dance for a good cause. Tickets are $30 and include appetizers, sandwich platters, nacho bar and dessert, and one alcoholic beverage. St. Bernard School, Mt. Sport/travel show

The 32nd Allegheny Outdoor Sport and Travel Show will return to the Monroeville Convention Center Feb. 17-19. The show features an array of fishing, camping and hunting exhibitors from across the country, live demonstrations and expert seminars. New 2017 fishing boats will also be on display. Admission is $9 for adults by using a $3 discount coupon available at Subway restaurants beginning Feb. 5. Without the coupon, regular adult admission is $12. Solo dance performance

Maria Caruso, acclaimed artistic director of Bodiography, will perform a full-length solo show at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Byham Theater, Pittsburgh. Her show, Phoenix Rising, is a testament to her own strength, passion and ferocity as a dancer. In Phoenix Rising, Caruso transitions from traditional ballet to modern dance. Black film festival

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces the first annual Black Bottom Film Festival (BBFF). The BBFF features films ranging from age-old classics to contemporary, independent Black Cinema, showcasing African-American contributions to the silver screen. The festival will take place Feb. 24-26 at the August Wilson Center, located on Liberty Avenue. Asbury Heights, Mt. Lebanon, will host the dementia education program “How Do I Know What Level of Dementia My Loved One Has and What to Do Next” at 6 p.m. Feb. 16, in the social room of the senior living community located on Bower Hill Road. The program, which is free and open to the public, will address the following: what is the level of stage of your loved one’s dementia; what is the best way to communicate with him/her; how to get the information you need; how do we connect; what should we talk about; why should we say “I am sorry”; progression of dementia: “Recognizing GEM Levels”; seeing the value at each stage of the condition; why it is important that we create the right setting and provide the right care; and when to give yourself a time out. Allegheny Health Network (AHN) marks Heart Month and the 14th year of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement with the following events:

• Canonsburg Hospital – Blood pressure screenings and chair massages, 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 23, in the hospital’s McNary Conference Center. There will also be presentations on heart healthy nutrition; heart healthy living; yoga and Pilates instruction; and a discussion on safe, effective skin care and wellness products.

• Jefferson Hospital – Race to No Place stationary bicycle competition featuring teams of four, noon to 1 p.m. Feb, 24, 2nd-Floor Mezzanine.
