MORNING PRE-K CLASS

John McMillan Preschool on Clifton Road in Bethel Park has a few spaces available in its 4-day Pre-K class, which meets Monday through Thursday mornings. There is increased emphasis on pre-reading, math, science, writing and language skills through fun and engaging activities aligned with the PA Learning Standards for Early Childhood. Historical society

The Peters Creek Historical Society will host a holiday social for members and invited guests at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27, at Wrights United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road, Venetia. The evening of fellowship is a prelude to the annual “Soup and Stroll” open house to be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 3, at the historic Enoch Wright House, home to the society and the museum of Westward Expansion, 815 Venetia Road, Venetia. Christmas craft show

The DeMarillac Guild of St. Louise de Marillac Parish, Upper St. Clair, will sponsor its annual Joy of Christmas Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18, in the school and LeGras Parish Center. One hundred and twenty-one artists and crafters will be on hand. There will also be a bake sale, candy sale and Chinese auction. Lunch and snacks will be available to purchase. Admission is $2 and includes a ticket for the Chinese auction. Due to the order of the USC Fire Marshall, strollers are not permitted.

FUNDRAISERS

Jewelry sale

Operation Troop Appreciation will hold its annual Gently Used Costume Jewelry Sale Nov. 10 and 11 at the South Park Community Center, located on Brownsville Road (behind South Park Library). Hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Friday (Marine’s birthday) and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (Veterans Day). Prices are $1 to $5 per item, or purchase a bag of jewelry valued at $15 for just $5. Christmas ornaments will also be sold for $5 each, and there will be a patriotic raffle with prizes. All proceeds go to support the military, through Operation Troop Appreciation, which ships care packages to deployed troops and also assists veterans returning home. Fundraising event

A Veterans Day Fundraising Event will be held on Nov. 11, at SNPJ Lodge, 540 Third Avenue, Bridgeville. Doors open 6:30 p.m. followed by the show and dancing to the Fabulous Gemtones at 7:15. Guzzi benefit

The sixth annual Benefit to Celebrate the Life of Andrew Walter Guzzi will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 19 in the ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh South, 164 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park, to raise money for Humane Animal Rescue and collect toys and money for the Toys For Tots drive in Washington and Greene counties. Guzzi, an Upper St. Clair High School and Washington and Jefferson College graduate, died Nov. 11, 2012, at age 25. Guzzi’s family organizes the dinner fundraiser each year and last year raised $12,000 with more than 200 people in attendance. Money will be raised through donations, 50/50 raffle tickets, lottery tree ticket sales, auctions for sports memorabilia and basket raffles. Holiday Home Tour

Symphony Splendor Holiday Home Tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in Mt. Lebanon’s historic Virginia Manor. Owners of eight architectural treasures, located just minutes apart will open their homes for the very first time for a walking tour (Molly’s Trolleys are also available) of their neighborhood to benefit The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The homes will be decorated for the holidays, and classical musicians will be entertaining in each home. Tax-deductible tickets are $60 in advance, two for $100 or, if available, $70 on the day of the tour. There will be free parking and free transportation on Molly’s Trolleys in the lot across from 100 Roessler Road (off Cochran Road), Scott Township. (No on-street parking that day in Virginia Manor.) Programs with a tour map of addresses will be issued to ticket holders and same-day buyers at the indoor ticket counter that will admit them to the homes in the building lobby of Manor Oak 2, at the end of the parking lot. Children’s fundraiser

A fundraiser to benefit Beverly’s Birthday, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless children and children in need celebrate their birthday, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 25, at Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South, 164 Fort Couch Road, Upper St. Clair. Fifty businesses will be on hand for holiday shopping. There will be face painting, princesses, a food truck, bake sale, Chinese auction and more. Dinner for a Dollar

Community of Christ, Church, Bethel Park, will hold Dinner for a Dollar from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 9. The menu will include spaghetti, bread and rolls, garden salad and desserts. Living history

The Oliver Miller Homestead, A 1794 Whiskey Rebellion Site located on Stone Manse Drive in South Park, will celebrate Thanksgiving on the Frontier from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 19. The Miller family and their friends will give thanks as a feast is prepared at the outdoor open hearth and bake oven. Guides in 18th Century dress will provide information and discuss the history of the Whiskey Rebellion and demonstrate pioneer crafts. TREE LIGHTING

Peters Township Parks and Recreation will hold a tree lighting at 6 p.m. Dec. 3, at the Peters Township Municipal Complex.
