  1. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will hold its 25th Veterans’ Day Memorial Service at noon on Nov. 11, at the South Park nursing war memorials on Corrigan Drive. All nurses who served in the military will be remembered with a floral wreath placed at the nursing monuments. The program will include Bethel Park Mayor Jack Allen, the Reverend Jon Brzek of St. Joan of Arc Parish, bagpiper Douglas Greer and Sue Means, RN, Allegheny County Council. Other participating dignitaries are Clarence Hopson, deputy Director of recreation, City Parks; and Retired Navy Captain James Sanford. Guest of honor will be Elva Bertha, a retired Army nurse who served in WWll. The South Park VFW 6664 with Commander Christopher Brown will give a gun salute.
  2. The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie will host a ceremony, rain or shine, at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11, to dedicate its new flagpole, which was installed in October as part of Phase I of Library Park. American Legion Carnegie Post No. 82 will “Present the Colors” on Veterans Day. The flag dedication ceremony will be followed by dessert and coffee in the Lincoln Gallery. Prior to the ceremony, Tom McMillan will speak about his new book “Gettysburg Rebels” at 1 p.m, as part of the Library & Music Hall’s “Second Saturday Civil War Series.”
  3. A Veterans Day Fundraising Event will be held on Nov. 11, at SNPJ Lodge, 540 Third Avenue, Bridgeville. Doors open 6:30 p.m. followed by the show and dancing to the Fabulous Gemtones at 7:15. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local veteran’s organization. To purchase tickets, call 412 551-0830.
  4. Boy Scout Troop 2 will hold its annual all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 740 Washington Ave., Bridgeville. Tickets at $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for children under 5 will be sold at the door.
  5. The Bethel Park Lions will award the $5,000 George Meyer Scholarship to a deserving Bethel Park High School senior in the spring of 2018. Applications are available at the high school counseling office.
