5 Things You Need To Know This Week
Canonsburg Hospital will host its first-ever Light-Up Night celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 30, with Santa Claus arriving at the hospital in an Allegheny Health Network LifeFlight helicopter around 5:30. Upon arrival, Santa will lead the lighting of a large Christmas tree that will be located in the front of the hospital throughout the holiday season. Light-Up Night also will include the children’s choir from St. Patrick Church singing Christmas carols, as well as cookies, hot chocolate and the chance to meet Santa. In addition, Canonsburg’s Holiday Basket Raffle is now underway through Dec. 11 in the hospital’s main lobby and featuring as many as 60 baskets of goodies for people to bid on, including baskets with a 55-inch Samsung TV, All-Clad cookware, Lottery trees, a handmade chess set and more. Tickets can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Winning tickets will be drawn at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 (winners do not need to be present). Proceeds from this year’s raffle will benefit renovations to the hospital’s Emergency Department waiting room.
The Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department and the South West Communities Chamber of Commerce will begin giving away $500 a day beginning Dec. 1, leading up to a major giveaway of $25,000 on Dec. 25. This is a major fundraiser for both organizations. Each ticket provides two chances to win based off of the PA Lottery’s Pick 4 each day in December. Mega Bash Tickets are available for purchase at the South West Communities Chamber of Commerce Building, the Bridgeville VFD Station 117, Visionary FCU, Single Source Benefits and the Barber Shop at Great Southern, and are $20 per ticket. The Mega Bash will help the station buy new fire equipment as well as help provide maintenance to Bridgeville VFD vehicles. The Chamber’s fundraiser proceeds will go towards the development of better business programming and opportunities for business owners in the area.
The Bethel Park Community Foundation presents the Dean Streator Holiday Tower Concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 3, in the Bethel Park Community Center, featuring Community Band South, featuring the Bethel Park High School Top 21 Choir and the Southminster Presbyterian Church Handbell Ringers. Admission is free and donations will be accepted to benefit the Bethel Park Community Foundation.
Peters Township Parks and Recreation will hold a tree lighting at 6 p.m. Dec. 3, at the Peters Township Municipal Complex. See Santa arrive in his fire truck and enjoy the sounds of the season, followed by a visit with Santa, a craft and refreshments in the library immediately following. All ages are welcome. Free. Annual Poinsettia Sale, sponsored by the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon-Castle Shannon Rotary, is now underway. Red, pink and white poinsettia’s in 6 ½-inch foil wrapped pots are available for $10 per plant. Delivery will be Dec. 4. Order forms are available at the front desk of the Castle Shannon Library.
