The 22nd annual Martha’s Run, a challenging 10k race through the hills of Mt. Lebanon, will take place at 9 a.m. April 14, at Mt. Lebanon High School. The event will also include a 2-mile run and 1-mile run/walk, open to all ages. At the conclusion of the 10k, children are invited to participate in the kid’s races, held on the high school track. Participants can register online at www.themarthafund.org, until April 11, or register in person at Fleet Feet on North Highland Road on April 12 and 13. Registration opportunities will also be available on race day at the Rec Center. This is the main fundraising effort for the Martha Fund, a charitable organization dedicated to preserving the memory of slain FBI Special Agent Martha Dixon.

Peters Township Parks & Recreation will hold Tween Night from 6 to 8 p.m. April 13, at the Community Recreation Center, 700 Meredith Drive, Venetia. The chaperoned event for tweens 9-12 years of age will include games, crafts and snacks. Cost is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. Preregistration is required by April 12 at the Rec Center or online at www.peterstownship.com.

RSVP by April 15 for Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation’s (CCPC) free class, Pet First Aid Class for Pet Owners and Animal Professionals, set for June 2 at the Bridgeville Public Library. Registrants will have the opportunity to choose which level of pet first aid instruction will be offered that day by voting for the Certification Class or the Basic Class when they call to register. CCPC hosts these sessions free of charge. Deb Chebatoris, owner of CCPC, contracts with Karen Sable, a certified pet CPR and first aid instructor and owner of Pet Emergency Training LLC, to help families learn what to do in the case of a pet life threatening situation. The class will include lecture presentations, demonstrations on mannequins and hands on skills practice, training materials, a first aid handbook, Certificate of Completion and wallet card. The Upper St. Clair Parent Teacher Council will host its semiannual Open Mic at 10 a.m. April 16, in the Boyce Middle School theatre. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patrick T. O’Toole as well as a team of administrators will be on hand to discuss topics of interest, which typically include school safety and security; capital improvement projects, the budget and financial challenges facing the school district; programs and initiatives; and more. Independence Middle School, 2807 Bethel Church Road, in the Bethel Park School District, will host a Parent Orientation Night from 7 to 8 p.m. April 19, in the IMS auditorium for parents of current sixth-grade students who will be attending IMS in the fall as seventh-graders. Administrators, teachers and counselors will be on-hand to discuss the education program at IMS, as well as scheduling and student expectations. The evening will conclude with a question and answer session for parents. This program is for parents only.
