Home show

The South Hills Home Show will be held April 20-22 at the Cool Springs Sports Complex. Show hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The show will feature more than 100 exhibits, demonstrations and how-to clinics. Andy Amrhein will offer home remodeling advice at 2 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, Doug Oster will share the secrets of successful organic gardening at 2 p.m. Throughout the show, chainsaw sculptor Bill Schaudt will create one-of-a-kind works of art. The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will hold a Star Party on Saturday, April 21, at Mingo Creek Park Observatory, located in Mingo Creek Park, Mansion Hill Extension, past Shelter 10. Opera

Pittsburgh Opera concludes its 2017-18 season with Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore — The Elixir of Love,” a romantic comedy about a traveling medicine show huckster who claims to possess a love potion. Pittsburgh Opera will be performing a sunny 1950s-style production that’s new to Pittsburgh, complete with Vespa scooters and a hot air balloon. Earth Day celebration

An Earth Day Celebration will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. April 22, at the Community & Recreation Center, Upper St. Clair. Meet in the main lobby to learn how to load the iNaturalist App onto your smartphone using wifi available in the C&RC. Next, move to the Pavilion in the park where USC CLS members will be on hand to lead and show how to identify species in the park. Practice taking photos on your phone and uploading them to the iNaturalist site for the following weeks’ City Nature Challenge. Finally, celebrate Earth Day with a free pizza party.

Peters Township Parks & Recreation will hold Celebrate the Lake from 1 to 4 p.m. April 22, near the shelter at Peters Lake Park.
