5 Things You Need To Know This Week
The Peters Township Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will hold a drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28, at four locations: Rite Aid Pharmacy, 4185 Washington Road; Giant Eagle (Donaldson’s Crossroads), 4017 Washington Road; Heisler’s Market, 601 E. McMurray Road; and The Country Store, 698 Venetia Road. Accepted will be expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps; only pills and patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
A shredding event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28, at the Mt. Lebanon public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive, off Cedar Boulevard. Iron Mountain will be on hand to shred confidential papers.
A Going Green Fair sponsored by Junior Girl Scout Troop #52670 will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. April 29, at the Girl Scout Cabin in South Park, next to the circle on Corrigan Drive. Learn about taking care of the environment, visit tables to make recycled crafts, play games, view artwork, enjoy campfire s’mores and more. View a display of parachutes for Mother Earth Project before they are sent to Washington, D.C., and help create one. Admission is free; bring used markers, old crayons and plastic bags to have them recycled.
The State of the Township Luncheon, a special event coordinated by the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Municipality of Peters Township and Peters Township School District, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 9, at Valley Brook Country Club, 425 Hidden Valley Road, McMurray. Paul Lauer, township manager, and Dr. Jeannine French, superintendent, will speak. Cost with lunch is $35 per person. Register at ptcoc.org by May 4.
Bethel Park School District will hold kindergarten orientations for the 2018-2019 school year on the following dates: Memorial Elementary, 3301 South Park Road, 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. May 1, call 412-854-8506; George Washington Elementary, 515 Clifton Road, 9:45 to 11 a.m. May 9, call 412-854-8546; Benjamin Franklin Elementary, 5400 Florida Ave., 9:45 a.m. May 11, call 412-854-8751; Abraham Lincoln Elementary, 1524 Hamilton Road, 9:30 to 11 a.m. May 16, call 412-854-8618; William Penn Elementary, 110 Woodlet Lane, 9:30 a.m. May 17, call 412-854-8522. Children who will be age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2018, are eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall. Parents who have not yet registered their children for kindergarten must do so in advance of their child’s kindergarten orientation date. Parents should contact their child’s school to make arrangements to get their child registered.
