Jeans & Jewels Gala
University Veterinary Specialists’ UVS Cares Foundation, which helps families with little or no financial resources to cover the cost of emergency care for their pets, will host its second annual Jeans & Jewels Gala to raise funds to serve its mission of “Saving Pets’ Lives and Owners’ Hearts.” The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. May 18, at St. Clair Country Club. Hosted by KDKA’s Kym Gable, the event will include pictures with honor guest Ola Kai, a past case who came to UVS with a metal rod in his head. Pittsburgh Opera concludes its 2017-18 season with Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore — The Elixir of Love,” a romantic comedy about a traveling medicine show huckster who claims to possess a love potion. Pittsburgh Opera will be performing a sunny 1950s-style production that’s new to Pittsburgh, complete with Vespa scooters and a hot air balloon. Student talent showcase
Bethel Park High School will stage Telerama, its annual student talent showcase, at 7:30 p.m. May 4 and 5, in the Bethel Park High School auditorium at 309 Church Road. Each night will feature a new set of acts, including the Drum Line, Bethettes, Majorettes, singers, dancers, instrumentalists and the comedic acting talents of the Senior Emcees. Arts Fest/STEAM Expo
Bethel Park High School will host the Bethel Park School District’s annual Arts Fest and STEAM Expo from 1 to 4 p.m. May 5, at 309 Church Road. The event will feature artwork from all eight Bethel Park schools, as well as art demonstrations, art vendors and several hands-on STEAM activities for attendees to try. Admission is free.
Live theater
City Theatre Company presents the second-ever production of “The White Chip” by Sean Daniels. A highly-theatrical and often comic journey through Daniels’ real-life struggles with alcoholism, the play features a cast of three: one actor who plays Sean, and two who represent the various voices of reason-and chaos-in his life. Black lung testing

The event will include health assessments, pulmonary screenings, pulse oximetry testing, benefits counseling and assistance with federal Black Lung applications.
