The deacons at Bethel Presbyterian Church will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 25, at the church, to aid a long-time cancer patient. Items available for purchase will include furniture, jewelry, tools, children’s clothing, toys, games, books and more. The deacons visit the sick and shut-ins on a regular basis and serve them communion. The church is located at 2999 Bethel Church Road in Bethel Park.

A shredding event for residents of Mt. Lebanon only will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. August 25, at the Mt. Lebanon public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive, off Cedar Boulevard. Iron Mountain will be on hand to shred confidential papers.

The Upper St. Clair School District will host its second annual Community Pep Rally at 7 p.m. Aug. 30, at the high school stadium. The free pep rally will include competitions among the Upper St. Clair High School fall varsity sports teams. Events will include limbo, a pie eating contest, tug-of-war, field goal kicking contest and more. New this year, Dr. Kevin Deitrick, director of athletics, will present the Upper St. Clair Academic Panther Cup to the varsity team that achieved the highest GPA during the 2017-18 academic year. The event will also feature performances by the Upper St. Clair High School marching band and cheerleaders as well as an appearance by the panther mascot. September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Peters Township Public Library will host “Question, Persuade, Refer: Suicide Prevention” in partnership with Prevent Suicide PA from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 4. The library is the first site in Pennsylvania to offer QPR suicide prevention training. The session will discuss how to recognize risk factors and the tools available to help prevent a suicide. Register by Sept. 11 for the Bethel Park Lions 11th Annual George Meyer Scholarship Golf Outing, set for Sept. 22 at a new location — the Cedarbrook Golf Course at the intersection of Rt. 51 and Interstate 70. Registration begins at noon with tee off at 1 p.m., scramble format. Single golfers will be assigned to create foursomes. Eighteen holes of golf with cart, snack at the turn, dinner, hole-in-one contest, skill contests and prizes at a cost of $100 per golfer. Dinner only is $30 per person.
