The Bethel Park Lions will kick off its new season with a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 4, at Lions Park on Irishtown Road. Returning president Danielle Gosnell will preside over the meeting, which will feature representatives from Black Hawk Family Relief Fund.

The Association of University People is looking for single, four-year college graduates over the age of 50 to join the group for monthly dinners and social gatherings. Army women meet
Are you a woman who has served in the Army, National Guard, Reserves, Army Nurse Corps, WAC or WAAC? The Pittsburgh Keystone Chapter 120 of the Women’s Army Corp Veterans’ Association, Army Women United is a group of Army women from all branches who are working together to serve the local area veterans, especially female veterans. FUNDRAISERS
BP hoagies
Bethel Park High School Band, Bethettes, Orchestra and Top 21 will be selling 12-inch hoagies once again as its main fundraiser. The three types of hoagies, which will be sold at different intervals throughout the school year, include regular (ham, salami, bologna, cheese, lettuce and tomato), special (same as regular but lettuce and tomato are packaged separately; suitable for freezing), and turkey (turkey breast meat and cheese, with lettuce and tomato packaged separately). Cost is $6 per hoagie. Order by Sept. 1; pick up Sept. 8. To order, call 412-831-1786. Orders can also be placed through members of each squad.
Golf outing
Register by Sept. 11 for the Bethel Park Lions 11th Annual George Meyer Scholarship Golf Outing, set for Sept. 22 at a new location — the Cedarbrook Golf Course at the intersection of Rt. 51 and Interstate 70. Registration begins at noon with tee off at 1 p.m., scramble format. Single golfers will be assigned to create foursomes. Eighteen holes of golf with cart, snack at the turn, dinner, hole-in-one contest, skill contests and prizes at a cost of $100 per golfer. Dinner only is $30 per person. Pep rally
The Upper St. Clair School District will host its second annual Community Pep Rally at 7 p.m. Aug. 30, at the high school stadium, featuring competitions among the Upper St. Clair High School fall varsity sports teams. Events will include limbo, a pie eating contest, tug-of-war, field goal kicking contest and more. New this year, the Upper St. Clair Academic Panther Cup will be presented to the varsity team that achieved the highest GPA during the 2017-18 academic year. The event will also feature performances by the Upper St. Clair High School marching band and cheerleaders as well as an appearance by the panther mascot. The Board of Commissioners of the Township of Upper St. Clair will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the Township Municipal Board of Commissioners Meeting Room, 1820 McLaughlin Run Road, Upper St. Clair.
Suicide prevention
Peters Township Public Library will host “Question, Persuade, Refer: Suicide Prevention” in partnership with Prevent Suicide PA from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 4. Call for talent
The Harmony Singers of Pittsburgh, a South Hills choral group, will launch its 2018-2019 season at 7 p.m. Sept. 4, with an open house and welcoming reception that includes an ice cream social for returning and prospective members. The event will take place at the Brightwood Christian Church Social Hall, 5044 West Library Road, Bethel Park. Weekly rehearsals are held at the church during the concert year. Entertaining for more than 50 years, the Harmony Singers perform a wide variety of music, from Broadway to rock ‘n’ roll to patriotic and pop tunes. The group is available to perform for civic, social, church or business organizations. New members are welcome; all voices are needed. Coin show
Sarosi’s Coins and More Promotions, LLC will hold a coin show Sept. 7-9, at the Monroeville Convention Center, South Wing, 209 Mall Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Historical encampment
The Oliver Miller Homestead, South Park, will hold a Frontier Militia Encampment Sept. 8 and 9. Saturday hours are from 4 to 7:30 p.m.; Sunday hours are 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Learn about the duties of a Western Pennsylvania frontier militia, which include militia drills, a firing demonstration and camp cooking. Admission is $2 per person. The homestead is located at 1 Stone Manse Drive, just off the circle on Corrigan Drive.

Peters

• Due to the installation of new carpeting in the Youth Services Department, the Peters Township Public Library will delay the start of their fall programming for children by two weeks. Programs for babies through teens will now begin the week of Sept. 24. The fall session will be extended by one week concluding on Friday, Nov. 16. The loan period for all materials borrowed from the library will be extended beyond this time. There will be no due dates from Sept. 10-22. Parts of the Youth Services Department area and Family Activity Center may not be accessible at all times, but the remaining areas of the library will be open and materials can be checked out. Adult programming will not be impacted by the carpet installation, and all regularly scheduled library clubs will meet as planned with the exception of the Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters Club, which will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 12, in the Peters Township Community Room located at the rear of 200 Municipal Drive, McMurray (the same building used by the Peters Township Police Department).
