Sabrina Tatalias of Bethel Park was selected for the First National Bank Mentoring Young Leaders Program.

The daughter of Dina and Bill Tatalias and graduate of Bethel Park High School, Tatalias is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from Point Park University. She is a presidential scholarship recipient, vice president of the Information Technology Student Organization and a member of the Honors Student Organization.

Jason Yanyo and Peter Kutschke received recognition and certificates of merit from the Elks at Troop 510’s regular weekly meeting held Dec. 2.

Jason’s Eagle Project benefited the Elementary Center of South Park. He and his work crew of volunteers refurbished a butterfly garden at the center. They removed old plants and mulch, put down new landscaping fabric and mulch, added new butterfly plants, re-topped benches and put up information signs.

Peter’s Eagle Project benefited the St. Anne’s School in Castle Shannon. He and his work crew of volunteers built an outside library for the playground area, as well as a new school sign for the parking lot. Peter also went to local libraries for book donations for the new outdoor library.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764 (McMurray) and VFW District 24 honored the patriotism of the region’s high school students during the two organizations’ annual Voice of Democracy awards ceremonies. Juliette Langley, a 10th-grader at Peters Township High School, earned first place in the VFW Post 764 competition, then advanced and won first place in the VFW District 24 competition. Juliette then competed as a finalist at the state level, and was awarded sixth place. The theme for 2017-18 was “American History: Our Hope for the Future.” Voice of Democracy second and third place winners at the local VFW Post 764 level were Makenna Marino and Morgan Byers, respectively, both of Peters Township.

Samantha Anthony, pastry chef at Sunny Bridge Natural Foods gluten-free bakery, was presented the Notable Design & Skill Award at the 13th annual “Let Them Eat Cake” competition fundraising event supporting The Midwife Center for Birth and Women’s Health.

This year’s theme was “Make Waves” and Samantha found the opportunity to use her skills at both fondant sculpting (50 individual edible sea creatures) and pastry cream decoration earning her 1st place with the contest judges.

Representing the dichotomy of our perception of the ocean and its actual health, Samantha’s theme of “Sea the Difference” portrayed both the vision of a beautiful and harmonious ocean on one side of the cake and the terrible effects of pollution on the other.

Tammy Singleton-English, Esq. has been nominated to serve as a council board member for the Solo and Small Firm Practitioners Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association in Pennsylvania. The purpose of the section is to provide education, guidance and networking opportunities to attorneys who practice in small firms or solo practices. Singleton-English is the founder of Singleton-English Law Offices located in Bethel Park.
