Charles T. Strauss, a 1994 graduate of St. Germaine Catholic School and a 1998 graduate of Bethel Park High School, has been promoted to associate professor of History with tenure at Mount St. Mary’s University, a private, liberal arts university in the Catoctin Mountains near historic Emmitsburg, Md.
Strauss, who joined the Mount’s history department in 2013, has published articles and book reviews in American Catholic Studies, U.S. Catholic Historian, Journal of Jesuit Studies, Gathered Fragments: Journal of The Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania and Catholic Southwest: A Journal of History and Culture, as well as in edited volumes and encyclopedias. Strauss is active in the American Historical Association, the Society for the History of American Foreign Relations, the American Society for Church History, and the Catholic Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania.
Strauss lives in Gettysburg, Pa., with his wife, Elizabeth Covington Strauss, who is also an assistant professor of history at Mount St. Mary’s, and their four children: Anna, Charlie, Tessa and Peter. Strauss is an elected member of the Gettysburg Borough Council. He also serves on the Gettysburg Borough Planning Commission, board of the Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice Gettysburg-Adams County, and the St. Francis Xavier Parish School Board.
