Troop 4 advances two scouts to Eagle rank

Paul Thomas Belak and Austin Christian Carver of Boy Scout Troop 4 were honored at an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony held Nov. 4 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in Upper St. Clair. The new Eagles received letters of recognition from national, state and local leaders. Eugene Eckman from Pittsburgh South Hills Elks Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park presented each of the new Eagles with two framed award certificates, a personal U.S. Flag and a gold lapel pin, which represents the 80-plus years of close relationships between the two organizations. Paul’s Eagle Project benefited St. Louise School. He organized the construction of four benches for an outside open-air classroom and led his group in building an outside leading library. Austin’s Eagle Project benefited the Bethel Park High School’s Athletics Department, in which he organized the construction of a portable trainer’s table. Austin worked with the school’s shop instructor to obtain a set of blueprints for the table then organized a group of scouts and adults to complete the project. Both young men funded their projects through donations and by holding a spaghetti dinner.
