Army Women United

Are you a woman who has served in the US Army, Army Reserves, Army Nurse Corp, Women’s Army Corp, WAAC, or Army National Guard? A group of Army women meet monthly through The Pittsburgh Keystone Chapter 120 of the Women’s Army Corp Veterans’ Association — Army Women United meet monthly to plan activities and events that benefit veterans in the Pittsburgh area. BP Women’s Club

Music hall fundraiser

The Bridge Music Hall Founders Day Fundraiser featuring The Roger Barbour Quartet and guest musicians Phat Man Dee, David Hawkins, Stillhouse Pickers, Soulful Femme, Desiree Soteres, Jay Hitt, Jocie Ghaznavi, Zanetta Wingfield and The Compadres, will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 13, at Wallace’s Whiskey Room + Kitchen at Hotel Indigo Pittsburgh, East Liberty. Hoagie sale

The Bethel Park Music Department will hold a hoagie sale Feb. 17, featuring three types of hoagies: Regular, Special and Turkey. Cost is $6 per hoagie. Mission hoagies, which are made the day of the sale and then donated to help feed 3 local missions, are also available for purchase. There will be one more sale on April 14. Lions Cash Bash

Bethel Park Lions Club’s Cash and Prize Bash, its annual spring fundraiser, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. March 10 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Avenue. Tickets at $50 include catering by Cyd West, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert and drinks. There will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, door prizes, $2,000 in cash prizes and art sale display. Dinner for a Dollar

Community of Christ Church, 3472 South Park Road, Bethel Park, will hold Dinner for a Dollar from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 8. The menu includes spaghetti, bread and rolls, garden salad and desserts. Dinner dance

Elks Lodge 2213, located in Bethel Park, will hold a Sweet Hearts Dinner Dance on Feb. 9. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 and dancing to the music of Nite Star. Auditions

The Carnegie Performing Arts Center will hold auditions on Feb. 10 for the adventure play “Peter Pan.” Performances will be at the newly renovated Andrew Carnegie Music Hall in April. African-American Read-In

The Bethel Park High School English Language Arts Department and the students in STAND (Standing Together Against Negativity and Discrimination) will host an African American Read-In at 2 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Bethel Park High School Large Group Instruction Room, 309 Church Road. Admission is free. The event is part of the National Council of Teachers of English’s nationwide program, which is a poetry recitation and readers’ theater program celebrating literary selections for Black History Month. STAND students will present poems, excerpts from speeches and spoken word performances from African-American authors.

Free tour

Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation free tours at the Old Allegheny County Jail Museum, located at 440 Ross Street. Tours are planned for Mondays, Feb. 12 and 26 (closed Feb. 19 for President’s Day). The 30-minute tours begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. and take 30 minutes. Band concert

The Mt. Lebanon High School Wind Ensemble will perform a joint concert with the Upper St. Clair High School Band and the Canon-McMillan High School Band. This free concert will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Mt. Lebanon High School Auditorium.

Chorus registration

Pittsburgh Youth Chorus [PYC] is now accepting registration for the spring session of its Neighborhood Training Choir program. The spring session is open to any child in first, second and third grade. NTC is the first stepping-stone to PYC’s three-tiered program of choral education and helps refine the audition skills necessary to increase potential success in the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus audition process. The spring session begins Feb. 13 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, and meets for 12 weeks, ending with an “informance” for family and friends on May 1. Impactful Women Lunch

The South West Communities Chamber of Commerce presents its first ever Impactful Women Luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at Rumfish Grille in Bridgeville. The lunch will feature guest speakers Stacey Riley, mayor of Carnegie and branch manager of Washington Financial Bank of South Fayette, who will speak about financial education to help aid business owners in their careers, and Tanya Mallory, executive director of Dress for Success Pittsburgh, who will share the nonprofit’s mission as well as offer attendees volunteer and donation opportunities. Launched by SWCCOC, the women’s initiative will focus on supporting women in business through educational presentations, and also offer opportunities for them to give back to those in need within the region. Acting contest

Students from Mt. Lebanon High School and Thomas Jefferson and Mellon middle schools will compete in the preliminary rounds of Pittsburgh Public Theater’s 24th Annual Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest, running through Feb. 15 at the O’Reilly Theater, The Public’s home in Downtown’s Cultural District. Contestants will perform monologues and/or scenes they’ve chosen from the works of William Shakespeare, while teams of judges evaluate each participant.
