The summer of 1956 was a wet and rainy season, as the town of Carnegie experienced a devastating flood. A steady downpour of rain that began on the evening of Aug. 5 made Main Street impassable and caused Chartiers Creek to spill over its banks. The damages from the 1956 flood were estimated at a staggering $6.2 million.
