At Friendship Baptist Church, 17 E. Walnut Street, Washington, a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Service will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 14, with guest speaker the Rev. Victor J. Grigsby, pastor of Central Baptist Church in Pittsburgh. Music will be provided by the Washington PA Community Mass Choir.

At Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 255 Washington Road, a Women’s One-Day Retreat, led by Sandra Joseph, Certified Biblical Life Coach, will be held Jan. 20.

• Bible study meetings will begin on Jan. 24, with focus on the Book of Nehemiah. To engage in this new sermon/Bible study series, Small Groups will continue to meet on Sundays during the Sunday school time, on Wednesdays after the 6 p.m. Family Fusion dinners, and in homes and other settings. The series will conclude just before Easter.

At Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church (meeting at St. David’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 905 E. McMurray Road, Venetia), Bible Study is held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Beinhauers Community Room, McMurray. The evening begins with a meal followed by a study of the book “Simple Church” by Thom S. At Ruthfred Lutheran Church, Bethel Park, the adult Sunday school class will begin a new study on Jan. 14 titled “Starting 2018 Off Right.” Learn practical tips on prayer and how to effectively study the Bible. Worship hours continue at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m.

At South Hills Assembly of God, Bethel Park, a new session of Grief Share meets from 10 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 11-April 5. This Bible-based support group consists of DVD teaching followed by time for discussion and sharing. Registration is $15 and includes a workbook. At Trinity United Methodist Church, McMurray, a sign language worship service is offered at 9:30 a.m. Sundays.

At Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 15-March 12 at Westminster Recreation & Outreach Center (WROC) at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair. Learn how you and your family can get out of debt, stay out of debt, and build wealth.

• First Place 4 Health, a Christ-centered weight-loss and healthy living program, meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, Jan. 22-April 9. A free orientation meeting (required for new members) will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 17 in Room 231.

• Westminster Recreation & Outreach Center (WROC) will hold a book discussion from 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays, Jan. 26-Feb. 16. Pastor Louise Rogers will guide this journey using the book “Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers” by Anne Lamott.
