Greydon Tomkowitz
Greydon Tomkowitz, 18, of Bethel Park has earned Boy Scouts of America’s highest recognition, the Eagle Scout Award. Troop 4 recently honored him at a Court of Honor ceremony in LeGras Parish Center at St. Louise de Marillac Church. The son of Ed and Kerry Tomkowitz accumulated 39 Merit badges, thereby also earning Bronze, Gold and Silver Palm Awards that are presented only to young men who earn five, 10, 15 or more merit badges beyond those required to become an Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Greydon led 36 volunteers in more than 212 service hours to upgrade facilities at Miracle League of South Hills. His efforts included planting shade trees around the baseball field’s perimeter, crafting shelving for the organization’s storage facility and building a rolling scoreboard. Greydon has been a long-time volunteer and junior board member at the Miracle League, which hosts a baseball league for children with special needs. A recent graduate of Bethel Park High School, Greydon served as editor in chief of the school’s newspaper; community service chair of National Honor Society; captain of the Mock Trial team; and lead in the fall play. He was also recognized as an Advanced Placement Scholar and was a top finalist in this year’s international DECA competition. In the fall, he will attend Penn State-University Park with a full scholarship.
