At Temple Emanuel of South Hills, Rabbi Donald Rossoff, D.D., RJE began his year-long tenure as its interim rabbi on July 1, following the retirement of Rabbi Mark Joel Mahler, who served the congregation for 38 years.

Rabbi Don served as interim rabbi at Barnert Temple in Franklin Lakes, N.J. (2017-2018), Temple Beth Am in Framingham, Mass. (2016-2017), and the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, Ill. (2015-2016). He served as senior rabbi (1990-2015), and is now the emeritus rabbi of Temple B’Nai Or in Morristown, N.J. Additionally, he authored the children’s book “A Perfect Prayer.”

“I am excited to be serving in such a warm, inclusive, and Jewishly-rich congregation,” said Rabbi Rossoff. “I look forward to sharing the transitional journey with Rabbi Locketz, the leadership, staff and Temple members as we build upon Rabbi Mahler’s great legacy and set the stage for the vibrant future which surely lies ahead for Temple Emanuel!”

Rabbi Don’s experience assisting synagogues in transition will prove invaluable as Temple Emanuel begins searching for a settled rabbi. He now lives in the South Hills with his wife Fran, a registered nurse. The couple has four adult children.
