Jump Cut Theater finds a new home

2 min read

Jump Cut Theater (JCT), formerly operated as Friends of the Hollywood Theater, has taken over the space formerly occupied by The Flying Squirrel ice cream & toy emporium located at 241 E. Main Street in Carnegie. Over the next few months, The Flying Squirrel space will be transformed into a 45-seat screening room where the group will continue to offer unique programming. In addition, JCT will be keeping the ice cream parlor open. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Jump Cut board members will be on hand to meet and greet the public and discuss future plans at the shop during the Carnegie Crawl from 5 to 9 p.m. June 8.

JCT will continue its Breakfast & a Movie, Noir Nights and other special events at larger venues in the area, as well as continue to develop its Cinema in Neighborhoods program to bring JCT’s programming and the neighborhood film experience to communities without a theater.

Upcoming JCT events include:

• Alternative Content, a new monthly series, will include screenings of 16mm films. Doors open at 7 p.m. for audiences to explore additional formats of media on display, including stereo photography, vintage stereoviews and film strips, before the scheduled screening. The debut show on June 9 will feature a screening of the classic film noir “He Walked by Night.”

•The Mads Are Back featuring Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu of Mystery Science Theater 3000, June 15-16 at Regent Square Theater, 1035 South Braddock Avenue, Pittsburgh

•Original Breakfast & a Movie: “Ocean’s 11” (1960), June 17 at Andrew Carnegie Free Library and Music Hall, 300 Beechwood Avenue, Carnegie

•9th Annual Purple Rain Party at Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville, July 7
