Peters Township’s 40th Annual Community Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 30, at Peterswood Park.

On July 1, the Oliver Miller Homestead will honor patriots who have come before and those who are currently serving by celebrating “Patriots, Then and Now.” Special guest will be George Washington, commanding general of the Continental Army, who will visit with guests and be available for photos and questions about his views on the newly written declaration and his expectations for the success of the revolution. A Liberty Pole, which signaled the meeting of the patriots to plan their activities, will be used to honor veterans. Ribbons will be available for guests to write the names of loved ones in the military past and present and tie on the Liberty Pole. Current military men and women are invited to raise the Liberty Pole at 2:30. At 3, General Washington will begin the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Admission is $2. The homestead will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 with the last admission at 4. For more information, visit www.olivermillerhomestead.org.

The Senator John Heinz History Center museum system will honor the Fourth of July with special patriotic activities throughout its three locations: Fort Pitt Museum, History Center and Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village. For more information, visit www.heinzhistorycenter.org.

Adult volunteers are being sought for a Large Scale Emergency Drill: Active Shooter Simulation in Mt. Lebanon. The exercise will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on July 17, at Mt. Lebanon High School.
