Upper St. Clair Community Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 19. Activities held beforehand will include a Color Run/Walk for Fun at 9, Hottest Dog Contest at 9:15, and a 10:30 kick-off ceremony at Veterans Park, next to the municipal building at 1820 McLaughlin Run Road. Some of the day’s activities include petting zoo, trackless train, inflatable 5-in-1 obstacle course, Toddler Trot, sand volleyball, Duck Race, after party and more. The Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services South Hills office will hold its 15th Annual USC Bake-Off as part of Upper St. Clair’s annual Community Day. Children from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to bake and decorate cakes to compete for prizes, with prizes awarded in five categories. Entries must be edible but will be judged on appearance, not taste. Preregistration is required by May 17. Entries must be delivered to the Old Rec Center located at 1770 McLaughlin Run Road between 4:30 and 6 p.m. May 18. Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. May 19 as part of Community Day events. The Bethel Park Lions will hold a spring fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. May 18 at Lions Park. The menu includes a fried fish sandwich, baked fish or shrimp with French fries or macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and a drink for $11. Children’s hot dog meals are $5. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and take out is available. Bethel Park Lioness will be offering desserts for sale. Plastic bags and brooms will also be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit Lions charities.

A ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1918 explosion of the Aetna Chemical Munitions Plant in Oakdale will take place at 2 p.m. May 19, at the gazebo on the bike trail in Oakdale. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors. American Legion Post 171 and VFW Post 7070, local clergymen and the mayor of Oakdale will be in attendance. A presentation about the explosion by local historian Dan Prevade will follow in the Community Hall.

JVS Environmental will offer an electronic items disposal service to residents and businesses of Mt. Lebanon only. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19, at the public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive (off Cedar Boulevard). Most electronic devices will be recycled free of charge.
