5 Things You Need To Know This Week
Conceptual Algebra students at Fort Couch Middle School and Upper St. Clair High School are once again teaming up to help those less fortunate. The students are hosting a food and clothing drive through May 25, to benefit the Greater Washington County Food Bank. Nonperishable food items and new or gently used clothing items can be dropped off in the main office or back lobby of Fort Couch Middle School and in the Upper St. Clair High School’s main office or counseling center. Both locations will also accept monetary donations for the food bank as well. In addition to their collection efforts, students will spend a day volunteering at the Greater Washington County Food Bank where they will tend to the gardens, organize food donations by type, pack boxes of food items for distribution and sort clothing in the thrift store.
A shredding event for residents of Mt. Lebanon will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26, at the Mt. Lebanon public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive, off Cedar Boulevard. Iron Mountain will be on hand to shred confidential papers.
The College Club of Carnegie will meet on June 2, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bethel Park, for the Scholar’s Luncheon. A social will be held at 11:30 a.m. with lunch following at noon. At this meeting two scholarships will be awarded. For more information. call 412-279-4458.
The Republican Committee of Mt. Lebanon’s Spring into Summer party will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. June 3, at St. Clair Country Club, Crossroads Room, 2300 Old Washington Road, Upper St. Clair. The event will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and beverages. Elected officials are invited. Tickets are $100 per person, due by May 26. The Scott Township Public Library is currently seeking a new board member. This is an opportunity to give back to the community and advocate for the library. The STPL Board is in particular need of an individual with finance/accounting experience. Interested applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a current resident of Scott Township (or a member of an adjacent community that does not have a library). This is a volunteer position.
