BP scout obtains Eagle rank
An Eagle Court of Honor for Troop 2 scout Preston R. Allcorn was held Sept. 16 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is the highest award a scout can receive, with just 4 percent of Boy Scouts attain this goal. To earn the Eagle Rank, a community improvement project must be completed. For his Eagle Project, Preston assembled 30 new garbage cans for the new Preservation Park in South Fayette. He then constructed new bat houses for the Boy’s Home Park in South Fayette. Preston was charged with all phases of the project which included planning, fundraising, soliciting volunteer labor man-hours, the collection of materials and construction. Both of these projects saved the Township the expense of time and labor. Preston received many letters of recognition from national, state and local leaders acknowledging his effort and success. Attending the ceremony were: American Legion, Bridgeville/South Fayette Rotary, Knights of Columbus and Pa. State Representative Jason Ortitay. Eugene Eckman, representing the Pittsburgh South Hills Elks Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, presented Preston with framed certificates from the local lodge and from the Grand Lodge in Chicago. He also awarded Preston with a personal silk U.S. Flag and a small gold lapel pin.
