Story hour

St. Elizabeth Elementary School, Baldwin, will hold a Preschool Story Hour from 1 to 2 p.m. Nov. 8, for any child that is age 3 and older (and potty-trained). Fall craft fair

Sugarplum Shop

Upper St. Clair League for the Arts will hold Sugarplum Shop 2018 Nov. 8-11 at a new location, the Upper St. Clair Public Library’s multi-purpose room located at 1820 McLaughlin Run Road (behind the police station). The event will include original fine art and hand-crafted holiday gift items by local artists. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Credit cards are accepted. Each artist will contribute a percentage of their sales at the event toward a scholarship awarded each May to an Upper St. Clair senior who intends to pursue a career in the arts.

Free speech event

Jump Cut Theater and Carnegie Stage — Off The Wall present a special screening of the film adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984” followed by a panel discussion featuring prominent free speech proponents. The event will take place on Nov. 1, at The Carnegie Stage, 25 W. Main St., Carnegie. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film will begin promptly at 7. Immediately following the film there will be a discussion on free speech with award-winning cartoonist Rob Rogers; John K. Live theater

Little Lake Theatre Company announces its MainStage production of James Goldman’s “The Lion in Winter.” Brimming with sibling rivalry, adultery and dungeons, this modern day classic is comedic in tone, yet dramatic in action. Fall play

Bethel Park High School will stage its fall play, “Mystery in a Nutshell,” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8-10, in the Bethel Park High School auditorium at 309 Church Road. The play is set in 1997 as the last of the Beaumont heirs, Anna Beaumont, donates the Rosemont Estate to the local historical society and preparations begin for a grand re-opening gala, but a shocking finding in the house provides a clue to the tragic events that happened at Rosemont in the past. All tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door on performance evenings. Advance sale tickets will be available at the high school from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 1, 2, 5 and 6.

Victorian Tinsel

Giant Oaks Garden Club will hold its annual Victorian Tinsel fundraiser on Nov. 2, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe. Veteran’s Day program

A Community Veteran’s Breakfast Club Program will be held on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon. There will be a combined 9:45 a.m. worship service followed by a breakfast program with the Veteran’s Breakfast Club, a nonprofit organization that works to create communities of listening around veterans and their stories.
