The Upper St. Clair Band Parents Association will host its 43rd Annual Upper St. Clair Marching Band Festival at 7 p.m. Sept. 29, in the USC High School stadium. The event will feature bands from Avella, Baldwin, Brashear, Keystone Oaks, Mt. Lebanon, South Park, Thomas Jefferson and West Mifflin Area high schools. The University of Pittsburgh Pitt Band will also perform. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, and are available at the gate or from any USC marching band member.
The Rotary Club of Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park (Breakfast) will hold its 30th Annual Chicken BBQ from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 29, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair. Tickets are $12 and include ½ barbeque chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, roll and dessert. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the club or by visiting the club’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/USCBP.Rotary. Or, call Dennis Gilfoyle at 412-298-9440. A Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle will also be held. Rita’s Italian Ice will be on hand, donating 25 percent of its sales to the rotary. Operation Troop Appreciation, a Pittsburgh-based charity that ships requested items to deployed troops once a month and assists displaced veterans once they are home, is accepting donations of gently-used costume jewelry for its fundraiser sale set for Nov. 9 and 10 at the South Park Community Center on Brownsville Road. The 17th Annual Blanket Drive in honor of Kathy Buchner will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 2, in the cafeteria at St. Margaret’s Church, Green Tree. Make a polar fleece tie blanket for local men’s and women’s homeless shelters. Bring scissors, 2-yards of printed polar fleece and 2-yards of solid polar fleece. Blanket makers 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Those wanting to make a blanket ahead of the event may drop them off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Nov. 2, at Greentree Printing, 2351 Noblestown Road.
