Garden club

Treehaven Garden Club will hold its annual Mother’s Day weekend plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon on May 11, at South Park Shops, Route 88, Bethel Park. Club members will sell perennials grown from their own gardens, hanging baskets and floral gift baskets. Experienced gardeners will be on hand to offer advice about gardening issues.

Decorative painters

The Golden Triangle Decorative Painters will hold its annual basket luncheon “Beeee Adventurous” on April 28 at the Fairview Sunset Room in Bridgeville.

New member drive

Bethel Park Lions, a community organization dedicated to service to the people of Bethel Park and the blind and deaf throughout the world, is welcoming new members. One of the organizations top fundraisers is its golf outing held each September. Funds generated from this event support a $5,000 scholarship awarded to a deserving Bethel Park High School senior in the spring. The Bethel Woman’s Club will award a $3,000 scholarship to a deserving Bethel Park High School senior in May. Applications are available in the counselor’s office at the high school.

Rummage sale

The Nyadire Connection Home of Hope Rummage Sale will take place April 27 and 28, in the Christian Life Center at Christ United Methodist Church, Bethel Park. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday ($3 early bird shopping night) and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 24 and 25. No clothing, large furniture or large appliances can be accepted. All proceeds will benefit the Home of Hope Orphanage at the United Methodist Mission in Nyadire, Zimbabwe, Afrida. Rummage/ recycling sale

Super Saturday Sale

St. Pius X Church located at 2336 Brownsville Road in Carrick will hold its annual Super Saturday Sale, a craft, vendor and flea market event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4. Food will be served throughout the day. There will also be a bake sale and Chinese auction.

Appraisal Fair

Dormont Public Library’s Appraisal Fair Fundraiser will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27. Verbal appraisals of up to two items per person will be provided by certified appraiser Kurt Shaw. Comedy for a Cause

The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA will hold its 5th annual Comedy For A Cause on April 27, to benefit the organization’s free patient support services. The event will be held at the Sokol Club Banquet Hall on East Carson Street, South Side. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 7 and show at 8. In addition to comedy by Gene Collier, Larry XL and Joey Welsh, there will be silent and live auctions, a basket raffle and more. Admission price of $40 includes dinner. Fashion show

Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh Foundation’s 4th Annual Fashion for a Cause will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. May 11, at St. Clair Country Club. The diverse fashion show will include 50 models age 2-78 and sizes 0-40 and residents of Emmaus as models. Tickets are $55 for general admission and $100 for VIP admission. Night at the Races

The Joey Fabus Childhood Cancer Foundation will hold the Third Annual Joey Fabus Night at the Races event on May 17, at the Bethel Park Community Center. Doors open at 7, with races beginning at 7:30 with approximately 10 races with 10 horses in each race. There will be door prizes, 50/50 raffles and auction prizes. Cost is $20 per person and includes food, beer and mixers. The event is BYOB. Buy and name your own horse for $10. Winning owner for each race wins $40. Must be 21 years or older to attend. Plant sale

Giant Oaks Garden Club’s annual plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Peters Township Public Library. The sale will feature perennials, herbs and other plants from club members’ gardens. Local vendors have donated annuals and hanging baskets. Flea market items will also be available for purchase. A basket of gardening items will be raffled off. Proceeds from the sale will benefit area nonprofits.

Horses with Hope

Horses with Hope’s 151st Running Belmont Stakes fundraiser will take place at 4:30 p.m. June 8, at South Hills Country Club. The event will include cocktails, appetizers and dinner. Electronics recycling

JVS Environmental is offering an electronic items disposal service to the residents and businesses of Mt. Lebanon. Most electronic devices will be recycled free of charge at the public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive (off Cedar Boulevard) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. April 20.

Drug disposal

Peters Township Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Summer camp

Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon, will hold Mini Gan Izzy, a 2-week summer camp for children ages 3-5, July 8-12 and 15-19. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Peters cleanup day

Peters Township’s Annual Great American Cleanup Day will be held April 27 as part the Keep America Beautiful Campaign, a collective of programs and resources to help end littering, increase recycling efforts and beautify America’s communities. Volunteers will meet in the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and will be provided with a designated cleanup location, garbage bags, gloves and a safety vest. Sign-ups are encouraged, but not required. Pet first aid

Chartiers Custom Pet Cremation (CCPC), Bridgeville, will sponsor a free Introductory Pet First Aid Class on April 27, at the North Strabane Municipal Building. Karen Sable, a certified pet CPR and first aid instructor and owner of Pet Emergency Training LLC, will offer instruction on situations such as assessing a pet’s vital signs, procedures for choking, heatstroke and hypothermia; assembling a pet first aid kit, and emergency preparedness. Auditions for the Keynotes $10,000 Music Scholarship Competition will be held May 18, at the Mt. Lebanon Fine Arts Theater. Contestants must be full-time music majors in a music school, college or university. Instrumentalists must be under 26 years of age, voice under 30. A high school senior must be accepted for admission as a full-time music major in the fall of 2019. Holocaust remembrance

The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh will present its first annual Week of Remembrance May 1-7, with a series of special events commemorating victims of the Holocaust. Children’s Theater Festival
