Alumni sought

Westminster Nursery School at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair, has been in operation for 60 years. What started out as a school with two staff members, two classrooms and 60 children has evolved to 22 staff members, 11 classrooms and more than 300 children. New member drive

Bethel Park Lions, a community organization dedicated to service to the people of Bethel Park and the blind and deaf throughout the world, is welcoming new members. One of the organizations top fundraisers is its golf outing held each September. Funds generated from this event support a $5,000 scholarship awarded to a deserving Bethel Park High School senior in the spring. Nursing scholarships

Scholarship opportunities are provided to local by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club to nursing students entering their final year of studies in a diploma, associate degree or Bachelor of Science degree. Nurses actively pursuing advanced education in nursing may also apply. Scholarships are awarded each April. FUNDRAISERS

Hoagie fundraiser

Bethel Park High School Band, Bethettes, Orchestra and Top 21 will be selling 12-inch hoagies once again as its main fundraiser. The three types of hoagies, which will be sold at different intervals throughout the school year, include regular (ham, salami, bologna, cheese, lettuce and tomato), special (same as regular but lettuce and tomato are packaged separately; suitable for freezing), and turkey (turkey breast meat and cheese, with lettuce and tomato packaged separately). Cost is $6 per hoagie. Order by Feb. 16; pick up Feb. 23. To order, call 412-831-1786. Orders can also be placed through members of each squad.

Cash/Prize Bash

Bethel Park Lions Club Cash and Prize Bash will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. March 9, at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Avenue. Tickets are $50 and include hors d’oeuvres, dinner and drinks. Annual prizes to be awarded according to the drawings held at the party. Additional $25 prizes are awarded each week based on the Pennsylvania lottery number drawn each Friday evening. There will also be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, door prize and pull tab tickets. Our Lady of Grace Catholic School’s 20th Annual Dinner Auction will be held March 16 at the Hyatt Regency, Pittsburgh International Airport. Jazz concert

A jazz ensemble concert will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 13, in the Bethel Park High School Auditorium. Participating schools include: Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers-Houston, Chartiers Valley, Mt. Lebanon, Peters Township, South Fayette, South Park and Upper St. Clair. Admission is free.

Dinner for a Dollar

Community of Christ Church, Bethel Park, will hold Dinner for a Dollar from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 14. The menu will include spaghetti, bread and rolls, garden salad and desserts. Donations of $1 per person or $3 per family are accepted, but not required. No reservations are needed and no take-out will be available, including desserts. Black history concert

The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh invites audiences to celebrate Black History Month with the Pittsburgh premiere of American composer Donald McCullough’s “Let My People Go! A Spiritual Journey along the Underground Railroad.” This concert of African American spirituals is presented in collaboration with Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Hill District, where the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15. PYSO concert

Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra will hold a mid-season concert at 2 p.m. Feb. 16, at Heinz Hall. Auditions

The Carnegie Performing Arts Center will hold auditions on Feb. 16, for the children’s play “Heidi,” based on the story by Johanna Spyri.
