Ride with the King: Black History Tour

DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh kicks off Black History Month celebrations early with a new tour during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. “Ride with the King: Black History Tour” will take place from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 19.
The tour will be offered in two formats: Bus and Self-Guided, with visitors hearing first-hand stories from the leaders in Pittsburgh’s African American church community, from the 1800’s to present. Stops include St. James African Church in East Liberty, Bethel AME Church in Uptown and Brown Chapel AME Church in Central Northside.
Learn about famous Hymnal musicians, contributions that have been made to the fight against slavery, Underground Railroad and the Daniel’s Den story, and the growth of the AME church and its impact on the local African-American community.
