Scrapbookers Getaway

The Jackie Banks Memorial Scrapbooker’s Getaway Weekend 2 will be held Feb. 1-3, 2019, at the Doubletree by Hilton in Washington. Meals, overnight accommodations and crop space are included, and a daycropper option is available. Volleyball fundraiser

Peters Township High School National Honor Society’s 13th Annual Volleyball Tournament to benefit the Make-A-Wish Scholarship Fund will take place from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31 in the high school gym. Each school in the district will organize a faculty team that will compete against each other to be crowned the champion. Hot dogs, nachos, soda, candy and baked goods will be available. Admission is $5. Advanced tickets will be available beginning Jan. 29. Tickets will also be sold at the door the evening of the event.

HAPPENINGS

Holocaust screening

The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh will mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a screening of the French drama “Korkoro” (“Alone” in the Romanes) at 2 p.m. Jan. 27, at the Regent Square Theatre. The film tells the story of a Romani family trying to evade the Nazis while traveling through France. It will also include a discussion of the Romani experience during the Holocaust. Tickets are $10 for general admission and free to Holocaust survivors and students with a valid ID. To register, visit https://hcofpgh.org/korkoro.

Birding events

The National Aviary offers Owl Prowls — guided, after-dark nature walks to look and listen for owls in Pittsburgh’s local parks — with ornithologist Robert Mulvihill. The 7 p.m. walks will be held Jan. 23 in Frick Park and Jan. 31 at the Audubon Greenway Conservation Area in Sewickley. Cost is $10 per person. The walk is open to bird enthusiasts ages 7 and above. Jazz events

The August Wilson Cultural Center presents and celebrates the African American experience by featuring jazz music programming as part of year-long signature events. Auditions

Carnegie Performing Arts Center will hold auditions on Jan. 26 for the children’s ballet “Cinderella,” at its studio located at 150 E. Main Street in Carnegie. Children ages 5-12 will audition at 1 p.m., with ages 13 and up auditioning at 2. Performances will be at the Andrew Carnegie Music Hall in Carnegie at the end of March. Alcoholism/drug addiction

Six Steps to Sanity, a 12-week program to help parents, grandparents, spouses and family members who have adult loved ones suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction, will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m.Wednesdays, Jan. 23-April 10, at St. Louise de Marillac Church, Bishop Leonard Room (lower level), 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair. This faith-based program is an outreach of the Substance Addiction Ministry at the church, and is adapted from the bestselling book “Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children” by Allison Bottke. Emotional wellness

Aspect Life Coaching & Serenity Center will offer the workshop “Envision You … Cultivating Emotional Wellness” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26, at the center located at 1121 Boyce Road, Suite 1700, Sainte Claire Plaza, Upper St. Clair.
