Open house
Artis Senior Living located at 1001 Higbee Drive in Bethel Park will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9. Tour the community and learn how Artis is elevating and enriching residential memory care while enjoying a hot chocolate bar.
Active at Any Age
Spencer Family YMCA, Bethel Park, offers Active at Any Age, a senior health and wellness program for ages 60 and older. Come on Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m. for Social Sessions or for any Active at Any Age Group exercise class Mondays through Fridays. The YMCA offers water exercise, yoga, tai chi, cardio, strength, stretching and toning classes, as well as volunteer opportunities and social events with Active at Any Age. Lunches/picnics
Peters Township Recreation Center offers lunches and picnics for seniors on the second Wednesday of each month. The events, held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, include entertainment, and a speaker or interactive activity. There is no charge to attend, but guests are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert to share. The next event is a Valentine’s Day Soiree on Feb. 13, featuring games and chair (balloon) volleyball. Senior lunch
Chabad of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon will hold lunch with a talk on fall prevention by Gallagher Home Health Services at noon on Feb. 19. Suggested donation is $5. Chabad is wheelchair accessible. RSVP to 412-278-2658.
Parkinson’s fitness
Delay the Disease, a fitness class for those managing Parkinson’s disease, is offered from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, through Feb. 21, at WROC at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair. This Parkinson’s specific fitness program is designed to proactively minimize tremors and improve flexibility, stability, balance and strength. Classes include exercises to improve activities of daily living, like getting out of bed, getting off the floor, getting out of the car, getting out of the chair, dressing, freezing, posture, rigidity, moving about in crowds and more. Retired men meet
The Retired Men’s Luncheon Group will meet at noon on Feb. 21, at Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road. Musician and singer Steve Tori will perform songs of yesteryear. Classes include: Strong Bodies – Strong Bones, 9 to 9:50 a.m. Wednesdays, through April 24, for $80; Gentle Yoga Morning & Evening Class, 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays or 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, through Feb. 20, for $63; Arthritis Foundation Exercise, 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Mondays, through Feb. 25, for $40; Tai Chi, 11:15 to noon Wednesdays, through April 24, for $70. Dormont AARP
Dormont AARP #3016 meets at noon the second Thursday of each month, year round, at Unity Presbyterian Church, 1146 Greentree Road. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments are provided. Activities include entertainment, speakers, pancake brunch, covered dish dinner, annual picnic and Christmas party, fundraisers and travel opportunities. Chair dance class
