South Hills Coin Club
The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 8 p.m. July 9 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2999 Bethel Church Road, Bethel Park. All members and the general public are invited. This month’s program will be the annual pizza party. A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes awarded.

Garden club
Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. July 11 for its monthly luncheon meeting and program at St David’s Episcopal Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Peters Township.
The program will feature Pittsburgh resident Carol Chernega, who in 2005 became the first International Visitor for the Jane Austen Society of North America, an award that sent her to live and work in England for two months, mainly at Jane Austen’s House. She will speak about pruning and how to avoid the seven mistakes home gardeners make.

Chabad learning course
Chabad of the South Hills in Mt. Lebanon is hosting Kabbalah of the Aleph Bet Ladies Summer Learning Course at 7:30 p.m. July 11, 18 and 25.

Vacation Bible school
Vacation Bible school at Bethel Presbyterian Church will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13, with lunch included.
Pre-registration is required at the church website, www.bethelpresby.org, or by calling 412-835-0405. Children age 3 (potty trained) to those entering fourth grade, will learn how Jesus takes care of us in stories, games, crafts and music. There is an $8 charge to attend.
Students also can earn free tickets to buy food and play games later the same day at the block party at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission to the block party is free. The program includes inflatables, children’s games and activities, Kona Ice and food and drinks.
Bethel Park concert
The Bethel Park Community Foundation hosts the 2019 Dean Streator Concert Series on July 14 featuring New Vintage Big Band, directed by Fred Perino and Max Gonano.
The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Bethel Park Community Center.
Admission is free, but donations are accepted to benefit the community foundation.
Senior lunch and movie
Mt. Lebanon Recreation’s senior luncheon and movie matinee is scheduled for July 16 in Room A of the recreation center.
A presentation on healthy snacks, including a live cooking demonstration, starts at 11 a.m. Lunch is at noon, followed by a movie at 1.
Call 412-343-3409 to register. Fee is $7, due the Friday before the luncheon. Walk-ins are not encouraged and will only be accepted if space permits. A late fee is charged.
The event is sponsored by Sunrise Senior Living. Mt. Lebanon residency is not required.
Flea market
The DeMarillac Guild of St. Louise DeMarillac Church will hold a flea market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 18 and 19, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 20, in the LeGras Parish Center (lower level), 320 McMurray Road, Upper St. Clair.
Glass recycling
The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will host two “pop-up” glass recycling collection events in July in response to the sudden removal of glass from many of the region’s residential curbside recycling programs.
The events are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• July 13 – Murrysville Municipality building, sponsored by the Municipality of Murrysville
• July 20 – Village Square Mall, sponsored by Upper St. Clair Township
Residents can drop off all colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs at no cost. PRC staff and volunteers will be on-site to assist recyclers. The preferred packing and delivery method is glass loosely placed in plastic bins or cardboard boxes.
Since launching in early March, the pop-up glass campaign has attracted more than 3,700 participants and arranged for the recycling of 63 tons of glass.
PRC’s network is sponsored by CAP Glass, Owens Illinois and Straub Brewery in conjunction with several local municipalities impacted by recent changes in curbside recycling regulations.

Concordia open house
Concordia of the South Hills will host an education session and open house from 1 to 3 p.m. July 21 and 22 from at the retirement community’s campus, 1300 Bower Hill Road, Mt. Lebanon.
A brief session on “What Makes A Retirement Community So Appealing” will be followed by tours of apartments and common areas. Refreshments will be served in the Harmony Room on the ground floor of the community.

Hilltoppers
The Hilltoppers of Scott Township, a group for senior citizens, will meet July 10 at Covenant-Community Presbyterian Church, 1630 Greentree Road, Scott Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for fellowship. Preschool openings
John McMillan Preschool in Bethel Park has limited space available in its Monday-Wednesday-Friday class for 4-year-olds.
Through hands-on learning activities, children will practice social, fine motor and self-help skills that are essential in today’s kindergarten classrooms. There is increased emphasis on pre-reading, math, science, writing and language skills
Each day will include free play and gross motor time. Afternoon enrichment classes will be offered throughout the school year to extend your child’s day.

Spencer Family Y, Bethel Park, will offer these dance camps:
• Prince and Princess Dance Camp for children ages 3-5 includes a dance class, craft and time for a snack from home, plus a creative play. Session II runs July 11 and 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon for $30 per session.
• Swan Lake Camp for ages 6-12 will teach students ballet, jazz and character dances. A craft of tutu construction will also be part of this camp. Lions bag, broom sale
McMurray Lions Club is selling high-quality vinyl trash bags.
Heavy-duty bags are available in 30- and 33-gallon size for garbage, and tall white bags for kitchen use. Brooms are available, as well.

• A Universe of Stories with Mike Plaskett, 2 p.m. July 15. The host of WESA-FM’s Rhythm Sweet & Hot musical variety program will share stories from the Big Band era and sample music including dance bands, swing bands, hot jazz performers and memorable singers of the 1930s and ’40s.
• Summer Reading Salon, 7 p.m. July 17. Library staff members Sharon Bruni and Karen Brown host the salon, in which participants share book recommendations, discuss recent reads, enjoy light summer fare and make some new friends. Frank Sarris Public Library
The Library will be closed in observance of the July 4 holiday, but look for Wonder Woman, Princess Leia and Spider Man along with some of your favorite library workers in the Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade!
Starting now and continuing through Aug. 23, the library will be open for summer hours on Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, hours will remain 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
