Applications are being accepted for Handmade Arcade Youth Maker scholarship program.

The program provides free vendor space for a limited number of craft-based artists, makers and entrepreneurs ages 16 to 18 to share and sell original products in Handmade Arcade’s Youth Maker Alley.

Handmade Arcade, Pittsburgh’s first and largest independent annual marketplace for crafters, is scheduled for Dec. 7 at David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Applications for the scholarship are open through midnight Aug. 23, and applicants will be notified Sept. 3.

Support for Handmade Arcade Youth Makers includes:

  • Workshops covering entrepreneurship and maker skills, creative practices, product development and refinement, merchandising, craft materials and techniques, marketing, booth setup and local resources;
  • Mentors who facilitate real-world learning experiences and provide product critiques and encouragement;
  • Invitation to join Handmade Arcade’s Vendor Facebook Group, a communication and support hub connecting youth to veteran and emerging makers, engaging them in creative problem-solving, and introducing them to a global community of do-it-yourself artists.
