Upper St. Clair High School graduate Kylie Koch was selected to work at the recent concert by legendary percussionist Sheila E. at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.

Koch earned her bachelor of science degree in sports, arts and entertainment management from Point Park University in Downtown Pittsburgh. She is currently a key account coordinator for iHeart Media in Pittsburgh.

“I first became a part of Women who Rock my senior year as an intern and was fortunate to be asked back as a member of the committee this year,” Koch said. “Women who Rock has perfectly embodied why I got into this business, and into the SAEM program. I have always wanted to work in the music industry.

“To be able to work in depth with an event like this has taught me so much. Seeing everything come together, especially having been on board for a second year, was so fulfilling.”

Women who Rock empowers women in music through educational workshops, performance opportunities and networking events. The nonprofit was founded by Colaizzi a part-time sports, arts and entertainment management instructor at Point Park.

Sheila E., whose late uncle Joseph Escovedo was a percussionist for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Santana, headlined the May 30 Women who Rock 2019 benefit concert. Proceeds benefit Magee-Womens Research Institute, the nation’s largest independent research institute dedicated solely to women’s health.

“Last year, I reached out to Sheila’s team because I believed she would be the perfect artist and icon to represent what Women who Rock stands for,” Colaizzi said. “She is passionate about what we are doing to empower women in music and raise funds for life-saving women’s health research.”

As an SAEM instructor, Colaizzi incorporates her real-world experience and examples into the classes she teaches, while connecting students with hands-on opportunities to volunteer and intern at her events.
