Scholarship available

The Bethel Woman’s Club will award a $3,000 scholarship to a deserving Bethel Park High School senior in May. Applications are available in the counselor’s office at the high school.

Garden club

Giant Oaks Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. March 7, at St. David’s Anglican Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Venetia, for lunch and a program. Arborist representative Gannon Boone of Bartlett Tree Experts will speak about common things that cause the demise of trees.

Bethel Art Guild

The Bethel Art Guild will meet at noon on March 7, at the Bethel Park Community Center. Guest speaker will be Pittsburgh water colorist Frank Webb. Additionally, the Spring Art Show at The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon runs through March 10.

FUNDRAISERS

Community basketball

The Bethel Park Police Department, Pittsburgh Steelers football team and Allstate Insurance Company will hold a community basketball game at Bethel Park High School on March 8. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Prior to the game, Allstate will present a $5,000 donation to the Bethel Park Community Foundation, to support the BPPD Community Resource and Education Fund. Pittsburgh Steelers will be available for autographs during halftime.

IRS Q&A

Peters Township Chamber of Commerce will offer the free event “IRS Q&A – Know how the new tax laws affect your business” from 8 to 9 a.m. March 6, in the chamber’s Conference Center located at 1061 Waterdam Plaza, Suite 210, McMurray. Learn about recent changes to the IRS code regarding businesses. Space is limited so reservations are required prior to March 4 at www.ptcoc.org.

Documentary screening

The Senator John Heinz History Center will host the premiere of “The Rock,” a documentary about the life and legacy of Therese Rocco, from 7 to 9 p.m. March 7. During her career with the Pittsburgh Police Department, Rocco became one of America’s first female assistant police chiefs and the first in Pittsburgh. The program is free. High school musical

Upper St. Clair High School’s Performing Arts Department will present “Hello, Dolly!” March 7-9, in the school’s theatre. Directed by Larry Cervi, the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. March 8 and 9. Family Night, with a 6:30 p.m. show time, is set for March 7. Tickets at $15 for adults and $5 for students are on sale now at www.usctheater.org. The box office is open for in-person ticket sales during the following days/times: 10:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Saturday mornings, and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evenings (one hour prior to showtime). Tickets for all shows can be picked up on any of the performance days. Admission for USC senior citizens is free with a USC Gold Card. Gold Card holders must obtain their free theater tickets in person at the box office.

Jump Cut Theater welcomes Mystery Science Theater 3000’s Frank Conniff and Trace Beaulieu for fun in the same style as their classic TV series. There will be two shows, March 7 and 8, at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in Carnegie. Doors open at 7 p.m. each night. The film screens at 8. A Q&A with Frank and Trace will follow. Tickets at $25 include general admission, meet and greet event, photos and autographs. Free parking is available in the library lot or on Main Street after 5 p.m. The library offers shuttle service. Purim event

Purim in the ‘Burgh-Celebrating Pittsburgh Pride will be held on March 21 at the South Hills Jewish Community Center. There will be a Megillah reading at 4:30 p.m. Activities beginning at 5 include the Pittsburgh Zoomobile, Silk Screen Painting with the Children’s Museum, Quarterback Challenge football toss and Hamantash baking.
