The release show for “Out of Touch,” the second album by the garage-punk band the Nox Boys, is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 17 at Mr. Smalls Theater in Millvale.

“Out of Touch” also represents the band’s second release on the Get Hip Recordings label, owned by Mt. Lebanon residents Gregg Kostelich and Barbara Garcia-Bernardo. Kostelich, a Canonsburg native known widely as guitarist and songwriter for the Cynics, produced “Out of Touch” and plays bass on the album.

The Nox Boys – the name comes from the band’s origins in Blawnox – have opened for the Cynics, along with such notable acts as Mudhoney, FIDLAR, Twin Peaks, the Black Lips and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Three-quarters of the Nox Boys still were teenagers in high school when they recorded their eponymously titled first album in 2014. The finished product was produced by Jim Diamond, who also has worked with the White Stripes and with the Sonics on their 2015 reunion recording.

Serving as engineer for “Out of Touch” is Pete Drivere, guitarist for Infidels, Deadbeat Poets and the current incarnation of Blue Ash.

The Nox Boys’ lineup is Zack Keim on vocals and guitar, Bob Powers on Melobar lap steel guitar, Sam Berman on vocals and drums, and Mitchell McDermott on bass and vocals. The 10-song new album features all original material – mostly were done in one take – bookended by the title track, written as an outlet for the frustrations of growing up in today’s political climate, and the seven-minute-plus rave-up “Darlene’s Gone.”

“Overall, we’re really excited to see the ways everyone has evolved,” the Get Hip promotional release for the album states. “The result is an even tighter sounding record that shows off all of the NOX BOYS’ strengths when it comes to composing and writing music.”
