Eagle Scout
David Thomas Gubinsky of Eagle Scout Troop 2, Bridgeville, was recognized for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor ceremony held May 11 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville.
The final hurdle in the quest for this highest Rank for Boy Scouting is a community service challenge, titled Eagle Project.
The candidate for Eagle must be in charge of all aspects of the project. The tasks include but are not limited to; planning, financing, implementation, completion and final presentation of the completed project to a committee of Boy Scout leaders.
David’s project benefited Pittsburgh Botanical Garden in Collier Township. The project consisted of constructing and outdoor sylophone and a chalkboard for the picnic area.
David designed the project, secured materials and volunteers, while working with the Botanical Garden to make this project a reality.
During the ceremony, Scoutmaster Norman Miller Jr. gave an inspirational talk explaining the process and responsibilities of an Eagle Scout and detailing the road taken by David to achieve the rank. Russ Spicuzza, Elk Scouting representative of B.P.O.E. Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, gave a short congratulatory talk and presented the new Eagle Scout with two framed Certificates of Merit, one each from the Local and National Elks Lodge (Chicago).
Spicuzza read a personal letter from Michael T. Lohr, Exalted Ruler, congratulating David on his accomplishment. He also presented David with a personal sized American flag and a small gold lapel pin, which represents 80-plus years of the relationship between the Elks and Scouting.
