‘Let Your Voice Be Heard!’

Peters Township Chamber of Commerce will host “Let Your Voice Be Heard! Women’s Series Part 3” from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at Crowne Plaza Suites Pittsburgh South, 164 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park.

At 8:15 is a panel discussion with Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan; state Sen. Pam Iovino, D-Mt. Lebanon; and Dana Brown, who serves on Gov. Tom Wolf’s Pennsylvania Commission for Women.

Holiday grief program

Raising Kids program

The Upper St. Clair Parent Teacher Council Wellness Committee will host author Michele Borba on Nov. 11 for in-service teacher training and a community presentation. The free program, “Unselfie: Raising Caring, Successful Kids In a Plugged-in, Trophy-driven World,” is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Upper St. Clair High School Theater. The event is in collaboration with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Nursery School in Mt. Lebanon, the Upper St. Clair Youth Steering Committee and Upper St. Clair School Board and superintendent’s office, with a grant from the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair.

South Hills Women’s Club

The South Hills Women’s Club will meet at 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at 50 Vanadium Road, Bridgeville. Tammy Hepps will share her usable history regarding genealogy to help others research and apply genealogy to their personal histories and their communities. Veterans Day ceremony at USC

Upper St. Clair will hold its annual Veterans’ Day observance at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Monument Park at 1820 McLaughlin Run Road. The event, which is open to all veterans and residents of all communities, is hosted by the USC Veterans Park Committee, and USC township and school district.

Chabad Senior Lunch

‘Lewis and Clark’ presentation

The Ruthfred Acres Woman’s Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Friendship Village. Gary Augustine, historian and popular speaker, will present his program, “Lewis and Clark in the Rockies.” In researching and writing this program, Augustine and his wife followed in the footsteps from Pittsburgh that Lewis and Clark did in that original, famous trip. Courses offered

A six-week series, “Worrier to Warrior: Jewish Secrets to Feeling Good, However You Feel,” starts Nov. 12, presented by Chabad of the South Hills.

Mined from the teachings of the Torah and contemporary psychology, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute course takes a fresh approach to the battle against bad feelings, providing realistic spiritual mechanisms for remaining upbeat no matter what life brings.

The course sill be offered from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the South Hills Jewish Community Center, 345 Kane Blvd., Scott Township, and also from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Sundays, starting Nov. 17, at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon.

Photojournalism program

“How to Photograph People” will be the program presented by retired photojournalist, Jim McNutt at the Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters Camera Club meeting at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 13 at Peters Township Public Library.

McNutt spent 46 years with the Observer-Reporter photographing people. He will show some of his photography over the years and how he worked with people to get the best pictures possible, how to light the subject with natural light and avoiding using a flash, and how to approach people the photographer would like to photograph.

Club members are encouraged to bring their cameras. McNutt will work with them as they photograph a model by window light.

The meeting is open to the public.

ACA enrollment event

State Sen. Pam Iovino, D-Mt. Lebanon, is hosting two Affordable Care Insurance Enrollment events. Specialists will be onsite to help with the purchase health insurance through the federal individual marketplace. Please bring your W-2 or pay stub and a government-issued photo identification.

The event will also offer flu shots (free with insurance), prescription drug take backs, handicapped placard applications, birth certificate applications, notary services, Port Authority Senior Connect Card applications and information about the state’s Real ID program.

There are two options to attend: 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Sewickley Valley YMCA, 625 Blackburn Road, Sewickley, and 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Whitehall Community Room, 100 Borough Park Drive.

parent/guardian training night

Bethel Park School District will host a special services parent/guardian training night from 7 to 8:30 Nov. 13 in the community room of the administration building, 301 Church Road.

The evening’s topic will be “A Focus on Mental Health Supports and Services in Bethel Park School District,” and will include a panel comprised of the district’s interagency partners, who will discuss the mental health supports available in the district.

A question-and-answer session will follow the panel presentation.

Hilltoppers of Scott to meet

The Hilltoppers of Scott Township, a senior citizens group, will meet Nov. 13 at Covenant-Community Presbyterian Church, 1630 Greentree Road, Scott Township. Doors open at 11 a.m. for fellowship. Community of Christ, 3472 South Park Road, Bethel Park, will be holding dinner for a dollar from 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 14. Spaghetti, bread and rolls, fresh garden salad and dessert will be served. breakfast fundraiser

Boy Scout Troop 2 will be holding its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 740 Washington Ave., Bridgeville, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 17. Tickets are $6 for the general public, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for children under 5. Meal includes all you can eat pancakes and sausage. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Senior luncheon and movie matinee

Mt. Lebanon Recreation’s senior luncheon and movie matinee is scheduled for Nov. 19 on the second floor of the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.

Bingo with prizes is at 11 a.m. Hot lunch buffet with 50/50 raffle is at noon, and the movie is from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Senior adults and their adult guests are invited. Mt. Lebanon residency not required. Please bring a canned good for a food bank donation.

U.S. Air Force Band Concert

The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Upper St. Clair High School theater, 1825 McLaughlin Run Road. The concert is open to the public.

John Seybert, Upper St. Clair School District’s performing arts curriculum leader, will serve as a guest conductor, and members of the high school band will perform alongside the Air Force band.

The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band is comprised of more than 40 professional airmen-musicians who tour regularly with a variety of renditions of orchestral classics, marches, Broadway hits, jazz standards, movie music and patriotic favorites.

Christmas drop-off

Crossroads Ministries again will serve as a local drop-off site for this year’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox distribution project. Now in its 26th year, Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, has collected shoeboxes filled with gifts for children ranging in age from 2 to 14. The shoeboxes are delivered to children in need in the United States and around the world.

Holiday social event in Peters

Peters Creek Historical Society is inviting members and guests to a holiday social event at 6 p.m. Nov. 25 in the social room of Wrights United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road, Venetia. Covered dishes and hors d’oeuvres brought by members will be served.

Holiday Fundraiser for Angel Ridge Animal Rescue

There will be a holiday fundraiser for Angel Ridge Animal Rescue at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road, Upper St. Clair, from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 1.

There will be a book reading and signing of “Wilson & Bella’s Christmas Wish!” – written and illustrated by award-winning author Susan Castriota – that follows Wilson, the adopted poodle, and his dog friend Bella on their quest to find a foster home for their friend Holly, a very special shelter dog.

Autographed books available for purchase, 2020 lottery calendars, gift basket raffle and “Real Life Rescue” greeting cards for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from every sale benefits Angel Ridge Animal Rescue Meet adoptable dogs from Angel Ridge Animal Rescue. Admission is free and open to the public. Scholarship fundraiser

A fundraiser to benefit the Scott Beynon Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Library Volunteer Fire Hall when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Arizona Cardinals. Adult Interest Center

The Adult Interest Center at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, began its 45th year of operation in September. The center, which is open to people ages 55 and older, meets at 11 a.m. Fridays in the church’s fellowship hall. Entertainment is featured, with an optional catered lunch for $7.

Safe driving class

South Fayette Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Seniors for Safe Driving class at 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the South Fayette Senior Center at 515 Millers Run Road. It is approved by PennDOT and designed for drivers ages 55 and older. There’s no exam, and there is only classroom instruction. No on-the-road driving is required. Participants can receive a 5 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, as mandated by Pennsylvania state law
