Concordia open house
Concordia of the South Hills Retirement Living’s open house will feature “What Other Retirement Communities Won’t Tell You” at 1 p.m. followed by tours until 3 p.m. Nov. 17 and 18.
The campus is at 1300 Bower Hill Road in Mt. Lebanon. Refreshments will be served in the Harmony Room on the ground floor of the community.

Genealogy Society meets
The Mt. Lebanon Genealogy Society will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at Mt. Lebanon Public Library. The presentation will be two short videos on “You Received your Ancestry DNA Results: Now What?” The presenter is Crista Cowen from Ancestry. Following the videos, there will be plenty of time to share experiences and learn from one another. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Christmas drop-off
Crossroads Ministries again will serve as a local drop-off site for this year’s Operation Christmas Child shoebox distribution project. Now in its 26th year, Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, has collected shoeboxes filled with gifts for children ranging in age from 2 to 14. The shoeboxes are delivered to children in need in the United States and around the world.
Crossroads Ministries is located at 81 Walter Long Drive, Finleyville.
National Collection Week this year is Monday, Nov. 18, through Monday, Nov. 25. Collection hours at Crossroads are Monday, Nov. 18 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Nov. 19 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesday, Nov. 20 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday, Nov. 21 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 22 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 23 – 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 24 – noon to 4 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 25, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Live Well Speaker Series
Bethel Park’s Live Well Speaker Series continues from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 at Bethel Park Community Center. This month’s topic is “Let’s Talk About Mental Health,” with representatives from St. Clair Hospital Outpatient Psychiatric and Mental Health Services discussing a variety of information.
Nurses club to meet
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will meet at 9:30 am Nov. 19 at Hamilton Presbyterian Church, 4500 Hamilton Road, Bethel Park. David von Hofen is scheduled to speak at the event and will present the topic, “Update on Parkinson’s Disease.” All registered nurses are welcome to attend. Trails meeting
Growing Together Through Trails will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Bridgville Public Library. The meeting will discuss current statistics along with national trends and local, county and statewide initiatives concerning bicycle and pedestrian usage. U.S. Air Force Band Concert
The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Upper St. Clair High School theater, 1825 McLaughlin Run Road. The concert is open to the public. John Seybert, Upper St. Clair School District’s performing arts curriculum leader, will serve as a guest conductor, and members of the high school band will perform alongside the Air Force band.
The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Concert Band is comprised of more than 40 professional airmen-musicians who tour regularly with a variety of renditions of orchestral classics, marches, Broadway hits, jazz standards, movie music and patriotic favorites. USC PTC open mic
The Upper St. Clair Parent Teacher Council will host its semiannual Open Mic at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Boyce Middle School theater. The focus for the evening will be on student wellness. Kindergarten Meet & Greet
St. Elizabeth Elementary School will hold a Kindergarten Meet & Greet for parents looking to send their children to kindergarten. Come to St. Elizabeth Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 45 to meet with Mrs. Lisa Jarosh. Parents will receive a brief overview of the kindergarten curriculum. Retired Men Meet
The Retired Men’s Luncheon Group invites retirees to its lunch at noon Nov. 21 at Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road in Pleasant Hills. Historical Society holiday event
Peters Creek Historical Society invites members and guests to a holiday social event at 6 p.m. Nov. 25 in the social room of Wright’s United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road, Peters Township. Covered dishes and hors d’oeuvres brought by members will be served.
The society’s holiday gathering is a prelude to the annual Soup and Stroll, from noon to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the historic Enoch Wright House, Museum of Westward Expansion, 815 Venetia Road. A supper with homemade soup and desserts, artisan bread and beverage will be served. An invitation to stroll through the house, mining room, Father Christmas and log cabin is extended to all who visit.

Holiday Fundraiser
There will be a holiday fundraiser for Angel Ridge Animal Rescue at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2040 Washington Road, Upper St. Clair, from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 1.
There will be a book reading and signing of “Wilson & Bella’s Christmas Wish!” – written and illustrated by award-winning author Susan Castriota – that follows Wilson, the adopted poodle, and his dog friend Bella on their quest to find a foster home for their friend Holly, a very special shelter dog.
Autographed books available for purchase, 2020 lottery calendars, gift basket raffle and “Real Life Rescue” greeting cards for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from every sale benefits Angel Ridge Animal Rescue Meet adoptable dogs from Angel Ridge Animal Rescue. Admission is free and open to the public. Bring a food donation for Angel Ridge Animal Rescue and receive a Wilson Gift Basket raffle ticket.
Auditions for Little Lake
Little Lake Theatre Company will hold auditions for adult actors for the first three plays of the 2020 season from 4-10 p.m. Dec. 1 and 6:30-10 p.m. Dec. 2. USC Light Up For Unity Night
Upper St. Clair residents are invited to join their community members and neighbors at dusk on Dec. 8 for Upper St. Clair’s first annual Light Up For Unity Night. Three community groups – the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair, the Upper St. Clair/Bethel Park Breakfast Rotary Club, and the Upper St. Clair Band Parents Association, along with sponsor Brentwood Bank – are coming together to host Light Up for Unity Night to celebrate our community and its differences.
To participate, USC residents need only set out luminaria on Dec. 8 at dusk. Community members are further encouraged to turn on their assembled holiday outdoor light displays to fully engage in this community-inspired opportunity. Luminaria kits can be purchased from all USCHS instrumental students, who will make and deliver the kits on Dec. 7. The kits can also be ordered online at www.uscbpa.org. Safe driving class
South Fayette Township Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Seniors for Safe Driving class at 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the South Fayette Senior Center at 515 Millers Run Road. It is approved by PennDOT and designed for drivers ages 55 and older. There’s no exam, and there is only classroom instruction. No on-the-road driving is required. Participants can receive a 5 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, as mandated by Pennsylvania state law

Christmas at Neville House
Celebrate the Christmas holiday season by candlelight at Woodville Plantation as the organization commemorates holiday traditions and music of the early to mid 19th century. Tour the Neville House at 1375 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, and experience holiday music performed in the parlour, and hear of traditions and stories from Christmas past. Scholarship fundraiser
A fundraiser to benefit the Scott Beynon Memorial Scholarship Fund will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Library Volunteer Fire Hall when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Arizona Cardinals.
