Road closure delayed

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced that the start of a closure on part of the 1800 block of Painters Run Road in Scott Township has been delayed

The closure now is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. July 20 and is expected to last at least one week. Closing the road is necessary for work on Painters Run Bridge No. 9, including repairs to the bridge deck, installation of guide rail, and paving.

The change in start date is caused by a delay in the completion of nearby utility work. When the closure begins, traffic will be detoured using Bower Hill Road, Kelso Road and Robb Hollow Road.

The work is part of an ongoing project on Painters Run Road that also requires short stoppages in work zones between Bower Hill Road in Scott Township and Cedar Boulevard in Mt. Lebanon. Those stoppages, which are expected to end in November, are needed for structural repairs to Painters Run Bridge No. 3, roadway drainage and base repairs, guide rail installation, and milling and paving.

The project is being done by Northeast Paving, a division of Eurovia Atlantic Coast, LLC, of Pittsburgh, as part of the $10.7 million 2019 Capital Roads contract.

Glass recycling

Pennsylvania Resources Council arranges for a Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program to serve residents who live in municipalities that no longer accept glass in curbside recycling collection.

The bin’s next appearance is from July 11-16 at the South Fayette Township Municipal Building, 515 Millers Run Road. Self-serve glass dropoff is available during daylight hours, and bin sites are strictly monitored at all times.

Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors, with no color sorting required. Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.

Owen-Illinois Inc. and CAP Glass sponsor PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program. For more information, visit prc.org/glassrecycling or call 412-488-7490.
