Library programs
Mt. Lebanon Public Library is offering virtual programs including:
Author visit with Madeleine Henry, 7 p.m. April 12. Henry will join us via Zoom to discuss her new novel, “The Love Proof,” an unusual love story about lasting connection, time and intuition. It explores the course that perfect love can take between imperfect people, and urges us to listen to our hearts rather than our heads.
Monday Maker Lab, 10 a.m. April 12 and 26. Join resident artist Judé Ernest for a collaborative workshop using the CreativeBug database, available through the library’s website. Discuss your experiences with Ernest and others in the group.
Basic fitness and nutrition series, 1:30 p.m. April 12. Mark Selekman presents topical discussions and demonstrates gentle movement activities.
Paper cutting, 1 p.m. April 14. Paper cutting artist Kathryn Carr will introduce participants to the art and process she uses to create silhouettes and Scherenschnitte. She will discuss the basic history of paper cutting and will show examples of various styles.
Yin yoga, 2 p.m. April 15. Monette Shuttleworth from the Himalayan Institute of Pitts-burgh leads the monthly program.

Coin club meets
The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 13 at the Bethel Park, 5100 W. Library. All members and the general public are invited.
This month’s program will be on Bryan money, tokens and medals associated with William Jennings Bryan’s platform during the presidential elections of 1896 and 1900.
A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes awarded. Applications are being accepted for membership. Call 724-984-6611.
Parenting program
The Youth Steering Committee of Upper St. Clair will offer a virtual program, “Parenting for Humans: Navigating Emotionally Tense Conversations with Your Child,” at 7 p.m. April 14. The presenter is psychologist Eran Magen, founder of Parenting For Humans. With a master’s degree in education and a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University, Magen considers it his life’s mission to help people have better relationships. He is founder and chief executive officer of a wellness monitoring and suicide prevention service called Early Alert.

Shredding fundraiser
A shredding event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 17 in the parking lot of Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church, 1207 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon.
Dispose of confidential and unwanted papers (no magazines or newspapers). Limit is five boxes, unless prior arrangements are made. A donation of $10 per box minimum is suggested to help provide meals, programs and services for people in need.
The event is sponsored by GROW Living Stones, a local volunteer 501©(3) organization feeding vulnerable individuals and families in the South Hills since 2012. For more information, visit https://growlivingstones.com/.
Shredding event
Mt. Lebanon will host a shredding event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18 at the public works yard, 1250 Lindendale Drive, off Cedar Boulevard. Shredding fee is $8 per box, cash or check only.
Blood drive
Healthy individuals are encouraged to donate blood from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 19 at Center Presbyterian Church, 255 Center Church Road, Peters Township. All participating donors will be entered into a random drawing for a pair of lower-bowl tickets to the April 24 Pittsburgh Penguins game against the New Jersey Devils.

Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave., Carnegie, is hosting a flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23 and 24.
The market will be closed on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. prior to reopening for a bag sale. Featured will be kitchen items, linens, clothing including baby and toddler, lamps, wall hangings and more.

Dementia program
Artis Senior Living of South Hills in Bethel Park is hosting a program for families caring for someone with dementia.
Mary Underwood, vice president of memory care services for Artis, will discuss the Ethics of Lying. People with dementia sometimes ask questions that caregivers struggle to answer: How much of truth should I tell? If I am not truthful, am I lying to my loved one?
During the program, Underwood will present what is happening in the brain of someone with dementia, and how to answer their difficult questions in a way that feels ethical.

College club meets
The College Club of Carnegie will meet May 1 at Valley Brook Country Club, Peters Township. A social meeting at 11:30 a.m. is followed by lunch at noon.

Liquor license hearing
Upper St. Clair Township commissioners will hold a public hearing on May 3 for an application for transfer of liquor license: First Watch Restaurants Inc.
The hearing is part of the commissioners’ regular monthly meeting, which is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in the Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road.
Garden club plant sale
The annual Treehaven Garden Club plant sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon May 8 at South Park Shops in Bethel Park.
The sale will be held on the sidewalk in front of Rite Aid and Pet Supplies Plus. The club will be selling hanging baskets, herbs, specialty gift baskets and homegrown perennials from members’ gardens.

Golf outing
WOMEN of Southwestern PA Inc. is holding its second annual golf outing fundraiser on May 3 at Valley Brook Country Club. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with check-in and range practice. Shotgun start and boxed lunch follows at 1 p.m., and cocktails, dinner and prizes at 6 p.m. for women’s, men’s and mixed teams.
The individual golf package is $250 and includes green and cart fees for 18 holes, a welcome gift, boxed lunch, dinner after the round and a door prize raffle ticket.
