What’s Happening Week of Sept. 5
Day to Remember in Mt. Lebanon
The municipality of Mt. Lebanon Municipality will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001, with a public ceremony and community walk.
Mt. Lebanon Fire Department planned the event in conjunction with state Rep. Dan Miller, Mt. Lebanon.
The ceremony, titled “A Day to Remember,” is scheduled for at 8:25 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Center. Featured are readings, a moment of silence, bell ringing and performances by the Mt. Lebanon High School Triple Trio.
Following the ceremony, participants are invited to partake in a one-mile silent walk through Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The walk includes a timeline of events and photos from 20 years ago. People are welcome to visit the walk until 7 p.m.
Driver course for older adults
The South Fayette Senior Center and South Fayette Parks and Recreation present Seniors for Safe Driving, a PennDOT-approved driver improvement course for adults age 55 and older.
The course will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 7 at the back entrance of the South Fayette Township Municipal Building, 515 Millers Run Road.
Cost is $16 per driver. Benefits include car insurance discounts. The course includes classroom instruction only. No exam or on-the-road driving is required.

Jewish Discovery Club event
CKids Jewish Discovery Club will hold an event for children from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Sept. 12 at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon.
Children ages 3 to 12 can bake their own chocolate baka and a delicious challah for Shabbat. Pizza and crafts also will be featured during the outdoor event.

South Hills Coin Club
The monthly meeting of the South Hills Coin Club will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. All members and the general public are invited. This month’s program will be on Canadian commemorative silver dollars. A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes awarded. Applications are being accepted for membership. South Fayette 5K Run and Walk
South Fayette Township is hosting the Evelsizer Family 5K Run and Walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at Fairview Park, 129 Greenwood Drive.
Registration is $25 per person at http://www.evelsizerfamily5k.com.
Participation includes T-Shirt, medal, free beer ticket from Over The Bar Hastings (for adults age 21 and over), live music by the Dave Iglar Band, and food and drink vendors
The race day schedule is check-in at Fairview Rotary Pavilion, 8:30 to 9:30; race start, 10; and music, refreshment and raffles, 10:30 to 1.
The FBI National Academy, Western Pennsylvania Chapter, in partnership with South Fayette Township and the South Fayette Township Police Department, is hosting the event, which honors Mark Evelsizer, a lifelong member of the FBI National Academy, and his wife, Marty, who died of cancer.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Western Pennsylvania Chapter for training, scholarships and other future events.
Household chemical collection
The Pennsylvania Resources Council will host a household chemical collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at the South Park Wave Pool parking lot.
A $20 fee will cover the cost of disposing up to 10 gallons or 50 pounds of aerosol cans, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides and garden chemicals, photo chemicals and pool chemicals.
Loads exceeding 10 gallons or 50 pounds will be subject to additional fees at discretion of on-site staff. Further fees are $12 per fire extinguisher and $15 per pound of liquid mercury.

Elks card party
Pittsburgh South Hills Elks will host a card party on Oct. 23 at the Elks lodge, 2789 South Park Road, Bethel Park.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at noon. The event features a Chinese auction.
